Great story writeup and video fascinating.
Are the ISIS crew issued a watch? So I assume they can also bring one (or more?) of their own? Or do they have to sneak it aboard like Col Pogue's Seiko on SkyLab in 1973-74?
He just did it in interest of common friendship and international cooperation?
Congrats and wishing you many years of enjoyable retirement with the Space Panda strapped on your wrist!

Oh, this is awesome! You showed me pictures at one point and I've been telling quite a few folks about it, but now I love the update of it on your wrist! This is by far the coolest thing!

He was not issued a watch. They are allowed a three pound personal property kit. All items are listed and checked against the list on return. SpaceX and NASA are very strict.

The friend who facilitated this is highly-regarded in the community with a lengthy connection with cosmonauts. For example, Leonov was a personal friend of his who visited him often. There was nothing about me that made me worthy of this honor, except perhaps for my respect for what he has accomplished in his life and my gratitude for the opportunity. I like him, and have had many enjoyable past conversations. It was a surprise when he asked me about it and all a bit surreal. Still is in fact.

@pdxleaf Congratz
I have added it into the database, as it is AFAIK the 12th " Special issue " Speedmaster flown in space.
Details:
Omega Speedmaster 35th Anniversary Apollo 11 ( Ref SU 145.0227 )
Space X Crew-12 cosmonaut Andrei Fedyayev (237 days 5 hours 18 minutes in space)
13 FEB - 08 OCT 2026
...
Database of space-flown wrist watches:
About the number of space-flown watches, the database is incomplete, I know because my notes were used as a basis. Unfortunately not every wrist watch has been identified, because it was worn underneath an inner glove and I didn't have additional onboard mission photos showing the watch.

Skylab SL-4 astronaut William Pogue just wore his underneath the space suit, as he always did during WSS training (except water egress).
Skylab SL-4 commander Gerald Carr snuck his into space on the same flight, so both count as the very first automatic chronograph worn in space ! The whole story:

Thanks, Phillip, both for your dedicated work over all these years, and for updating the database.

As we discussed privately, my watch is actually a mod, which I mention here to clarify the record. (The decimal bezel is visible in some of the photos and video. In the video with the water bubble on the crystal, we can see the chronograph hand running.)

The strap worn on the ISS was the short NATO version that came with the Omega big box 1861 Hesalite Moonwatch because it was light.

I am very jealous of your glove!

Dave

I could make some nice watch straps out of that glove..
