I’m about to pull the trigger on my first vintage watch. Maybe someone more experienced could spot something wrong with the movement. Seems a bit dirty to me. The dial also does not seem refurbished does it? This is a King Seiko 4402-8000
Thank a lot!
Regards,
Eduardo

Probably get more attention on the Seiko sub forum at the top of the Other Watch Brands forum.
Many very knowledgeable Seiko collectors there.

Is there supposed to be a tension/reflector ring inside the crystal? Odd the way the edge of the dial is so obvious. Otherwise she is lookin good!

There is one. The crystal might not be seated 100%.

Not so sure. To my eyes the diameter of the dial is smaller than whatever is going on with that crystal. The reflector/tension ring should also be shiny and to me it appears that the matte silver edge is actually the case showing thru the crystal.

Your interpretation has merit. Hard to see without having it in your hands.

I agree it needs a better crystal. Overall, I think it's a decent example and would be a nice pick-up at the right price. The watch does have some minor condition issues. Obviously the case shows wear and I think I see some minor water stains at the lower edge of the dial and corrosion to the 4 o'clock marker. All of these things are definitely tolerable and probably not very noticeable to the naked eye, it will face up nicely on the wrist. In general, you can get a lot of watch for little money in 1960s KS. They are still lagging a bit behind GS price-wise. @efauser knows a lot about them IIRC.

Hello, thank you all for the feedback. You have given me enough confidence and I finally bought the watch. It does not really matter at this point but for future reference the price was 270 euros. I would say it's a great watch for a first timer!
Regarding the crystal issue, I too see it but I'm not very familiar with this model. When I get my better camera ready I will post more photos.

Eduardo

That movement needs a full service.

That movement needs a full service.

I'm trying to find a trustworthy person located near me, but It's not easy. Is there something specific I would look for or any watchmaker should be able to service this watch?
Thanks!

If you post your city here you might get a recco. Members don’t generally like to make public recommendations for fear of swamping their favorite watchmaker but someone may or PM you.

I'm located in Lisbon, Portugal right now. I will try to do some research here in the forum as well.
Thanks!
