Seeking input on a piepan constellation

Hi all!

While I’ve never been really attracted myself to these piepan constellations, this might be changing!
My wife’s birthday is coming and I’m thinking a beautiful piece in gold would be a perfect gift!
But it seems like the constellation world is vast, would there be some websites dedicated to collecting those, with references and details?

I found this one close to where I am and was wondering what to think about it. It’s a 21M serial, so approx from 64’ and has been serviced at omega a year ago (so still under the 24 months warranty).
So I’m afraid of what might have been changed…

Thanks! 😀

What did the Omega service paperwork tell you about the watch and what they had done to it ?

I asked for a picture of it 😀

the seller states that it was polished by Omega and that the crystal and malfunctioning mechanical pieces were changed…
Do the dial/hands/case/caseback/crown look period correct?

thanks! 😀

It's a handsome looking watch
is it rose gold or is that just the hue from the red cloth it is on?

Dial and hands look correct - the dial is very nice
The crown is a replacement - however it looks a little small and tapered (the replacement crowns aren't tapered) but it could just be the photo and I can't imagine Omega fitting the wrong crown, as it has a waterproofing element to it.

I was looking for the hallmarks (there should be at least two on the lugs) and eventually found one under the parapet of the observatory - looks like an 18k eagle's head, which would suggest that it is a French-cased watch.
The large stars didn't immediately stand out in the pic of the case back but once you see them....
Therefore, it could be a 168.3004 or a French-only reference but either way, it is based on a 168.004 hidden crown Connie.
Should contain a cal 561 movement.

The case is a bit soft but probably acceptable to a non-collector (you just wouldn't want to pay top dollar for it)
The ding on the bezel at 9 is my main concern - as to whether you or your wife could live with that.
Of course it would all depend on price

The site that @TexOmega listed is great and worth reading if you want to know about Constellations but doesn't have a great about this particular reference

hope that helps

Thanks for this detailed input! The watch is indeed in France so it would not be surprising if it originated from here 😀
The ding is also a big concern, the seller stated it firsthand. I initially thought it was « under » but I see it’s actually not 🙁
Price wise, the seller is asking 3k€ and I’ve no idea how it’s placed for this kind of watch…

The French (and English) 18k gold cases are of at least the same quality and weight as their Swiss counterparts but understandably realise a (slightly) lower price.
Whilst I have a particular fondness for this style of Connie, they are less in demand than, say, their dogleg or lyre-lug cousins and €3000 should still buy you a mint example of an 18k Swiss-cased hidden-crown connie. (even with a nice pie-pan dial)
Due to the French casing, the reference, the polished case and the replacement crown, I would say that this is a €2000-€2500 watch.
The ding on the bezel puts it at the lower end for me.
