Seeking info on the Omega Apnea Jacques Mayol

I have become obsessed with the Omega Apnea and would like to own one as soon as I feel I have a thorough understanding of the model. I’m finding information about them does not abound. Here are the basics I’ve found thus far:
  • There were two reference numbers used 2595.50.00 & 2895.30.91
    • I believe they were dimensionally & mechanically identical and I can’t dig up any differences
    • There seem to be more examples of the 2595 out there
  • There were factory dial colors of, black, silver, and white
    • At one point I thought the 2595 offered all three dial colors while the 2895 was white only, but I’m no longer sure
  • There were factory steel bracelets and rubber straps
    • At one point I thought the 2595 offered steel bracelet & rubber strap options while the 2895 had rubber straps only, but I’m no longer sure
I have found very little discussion on counterfeits and those I have found all look to be very poor and not even close to passable as the real thing if you’ve spent any time looking at them. It’s comforting to not have to worry too terribly much about authentication. The main thing I’ve noticed once or twice that originally concerned me about authenticity is a black dial watch with a silver alternating color for the red dots. My assumption is that the disc was either swapped for effect or incorrectly replaced during a repair. I have found no evidence that there were factory black dial watches with dots that alternated red/gray, only red/black on the black dial watch.

Any chance somebody here knows of an information repository/site where I can get more detail on this model? Omega’s website only produces one variation of each reference. Or, could somebody better versed on this model fill me in on anything I’d need to know? I've searched around on OF and found some discussion about them but not so much regarding details. I definitely want a steel bracelet version and I’m 90% sure I want a black dial although the silver intrigues me a bit, but the nerd in me really needs to know the difference between the two references before I get too serious!

Thank you in advance!

I have no specialist Apnea knowledge but can tell you that Omega PIC codes have meaning. The first digit denotes the sub family, 2 is for Seamaster. The second digit I think refers to the case metal or bracelet design and the 2 digits directly after the first 4 refer to the dial colour so one can infer from the 2 you show above that those are 2 similar watches with different bracelets and dial colours. XXXX.30 refers to silver, .50 is black, .80 is blue and .20 is white. The final digits are for other variations and are often populated on strap versions of watches that are otherwise seen on bracelets.

I have no detailed info to share other than:

1) I am wearing mine right now and really enjoy it:

2) I really prefer a rubber strap over the bracelet it comes on.

Note that people will often mix up the official pic code at sale.
