    Hi all,

I am considering the purchase of a vintage seamaster and was hoping to get some insight.

I still have lots to learn so please do not assume I have a high level of knowledge.

    Details about myself:
    - fairly new to watches but passionate
    - was hoping to spend < 1500 USD
    - 6.25 inch wrist

    Watch details:
    - 1976
    - serial number 166.0172
    - chronometer
    - stainless steel
    - I believe it has a 1012 calibre
    - date window
    - original beads of rice bracelet
    - original winding crown
    - Price of 1950 USD but speaking with the seller he said he would do closer to 1800 USD for me
    - watch authenticated by the seller
    - has already been fully serviced by the seller
    - I have seen the watch in person and it fits my wrist (see attached photos)
    - I believe it has hacking

    Seller details:
    - local business in the city adjacent to mine
    - seems to be reputable and has positive reviews online
    - has been in business for decades, and I am getting a good impression from them
    - addresses all my questions respectfully
    - will open the case back and go through everything with me upon purchasing

Please let me know your thoughts. Does this seem like a reasonable price? Do you see any red flags? Are there any other details you can tell me about this watch (I haven't seen as many vintage seamasters with chronometer status)? Is there anything I am not considering?

I would like to purchase this watch but wanted to seek advice from those more knowledgeable than myself.

    Thank you very much. DonnyIRL

If it has a 1012 caliber it has the wrong dial, 1012 is not chronometer rated.

Price is bricks & mortar store x 2.

this is a double reference case back reference.
So it could be a 168.0061 chronometer version.

however, the pics aren’t good enough to see the movt cal.
If it is a 1012, then it is either the wrong dial or wrong movt.

    Maybe 1011 then?

The hands may not be correct though as @SkunkPrince noted.

There are some of the chronometer version on the net with those thick hands.
With a couple appearing on OF
(Doesn’t mean to say they’re correct though)
