Hello everyone!
Thanks again for all of your help. I’ve enjoyed reading the replies and learning along the way. I’ve been scanning all my local stores and auction websites and I managed to get my hands on a watch I’m very happy with! I honestly didn’t expect to get one so quickly, but I had a perfect storm of a watch I really liked, for a price I liked, and I had the money in hand. I’m really pleased with the outcome, and I’m curious to see how you all feel about it.

It’s a 1967 champagne dial with the bubbled patina that Krogerfoot described. I think it looks fantastic in person. Note the evidence of past water ingress.. the watch is running about +6secs/day right now and the crown action is smooth, so I’m not too concerned, but rest assured I intend to have it overhauled for peace of mind. No paperwork, but with both boxes I paid about $667 all in. I suppose I might have been able to do better, but I’m really happy with what I’ve got and I look forward to a long life with it 😀 thank you!

How do you feel about it, now that you’ve had six weeks with it? I hope the relative lack of response to your latest post doesn’t mean people are being discreet about their opinions. I don’t mean in this in any dismissive way at all, but I think you got a watch that was priced appropriately. I have no idea if the boxes are original or correct for the period, but they’re a nice extra. I have always been happy to get a good deal for a lived-in watch, but I’d be concerned about that broken section of the thread.

If you’re in/near Tokyo, I use Ikeda-san at Ayase Opt (Chiyoda line/JR Jōban line, Ayase). He’s great with these old watches and can give you a frank assessment of how worried you should be about wearing one on a humid/sweaty day. There should be a lot of parts available for your watch if you decide to replace anything to make it more water-resistant or spiffier, looks-wise.

Thanks for your response! I’ve been very content with my purchase so far. I don’t wear it every day, partly because of concerns about moisture and partly to preserve the beautiful case, but I haven’t had any problems or concerns. I agree that it was an appropriate price. Maybe a slight premium for the box, but I don’t regret it. It would always be nice to have a 10/10 museum piece, but I buy my watches to wear, so there’s not much point in that for me. That said, I avoid rainy day wear and I take it off when cooking/ washing dishes, and it doesn’t enter the bathroom.

I hope the relative lack of response to your latest post doesn’t mean people are being discreet about their opinions.

I’m not really sure what you mean by this, but I haven’t had anyone privately messaging me about it, if that’s what you’re getting at..

I honestly hadn’t noticed that broken thread at all, I’m glad you pointed it out to me. I’ll be sure to mention it to my repair guy when I get it serviced. I don’t live close to Tokyo, but I have a couple multi-generation vintage repair shops near me that do good work.

I consider myself a pretty financially sensible (stingy) guy, so I expected some buyer’s remorse. Honestly, though, I wouldn’t change anything. That’s the watch I wanted, for a price I was willing to pay, and I had the money. Can’t get much better than that 😀 thanks again for your input!

Thanks! I thought I was a high dome kind of guy until I got hands on this watch.. now I wish all of my vintages had the same profile!. You still get the domed effect, but it’s so much sleeker I think.
