Seeking advice on a Omega Speedmaster 145.022-68ST

Hi OF members,

I would like to get some advice on the authenticity of this Omega Speedmaster 145.022-68ST.
It is currently priced around US$7,600 which is slightly below the market value of this watch. Which makes me a little hesitant on making an impulsive purchase.

The watch does not come with any box or papers. The 1039 bracelet is period correct with 516 end links and the etching on the caseback looks to be really visible.

Please refer to the images attached below for some reference.

Can any OF members shed some light on this?
Or provide some pointers on what I should look out for?
Your opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Dan,

Apologies, maybe these photos would be clearer?

Thank you for commenting.

Kevin

The condition seems to be very nice. The crown appears to be a service part, which would not concern me. Some polishing, but not too bad. I believe that 27M is correct for a transitional. The price is a bargain, especially if that includes the 1039.

I like the watch, the black gloves make it look a bit like a theft-in-progress tho... 😎

I agree what everyone has already said... the case is lightly polished as some of the line angles are not as sharp, service crown, caseback is very strong, dial is very attractive with very closely matching patina to the hands and no obvious missing lume, the hands are clean, the bezel insert shows some obvious wear and the bracelet appears to be in very good condition. The dial, movement and number, flat chrono hand and reference number are all consistent with being a transitional.

If you consider Speedmaster 101 price chart for just the head...
dial...very good ... 10K
bezel insert... fair... 4.5K
case ... fair + .... 6K
Average for head... 6.8K
add value of bracelet... 1.5 -2k
Value of watch as shown ... 8.3 to 8.8 and I was being conservative.

Is 7.6K the total price including all fees, taxes, shipping, insurance, etc? Does the watch run or only tells time twice a day? If the total price is 7.6 and it runs, it's a great price, if you are paying 7.6, and considering I just paid double of what you are for a transitional... run, don't walk. Yes mine is in better condition, but, it is all relative isn't it? Wonderful find.

Looks to be in amazing condition. The condition of the bracelet says everything about the watch.

There seems to be some lume loss on the 2 o'clock marker, but it would not turn me off the watch.

Thanks for all the positive input so far! I might go ahead with the purchase, after clarifying some additional queries to the seller.

Here's a small piece of advice. Some questions are ok but don't make a nuisance of yourself. Grab it.

I guess that is why this forum is made for, to assist with any doubts, instead of directing the questions to the seller.
Thanks.

I shouldn't discourage you from asking reasonable questions, especially about logistics, payment, shipping, terms of the sale, etc. Definitely make sure you are both on the same page.

But buyers will sometimes overdo it, asking questions like "Is it unpolished?", "What is the accuracy of the watch in seconds per day?", "Are all parts original?", etc. You don't want to alienate the seller by asking impossible questions or signaling that you may have unreasonable expectations, especially when he seems to be putting a fair price on the watch.

As an owner of a couple of these 145.022-68; I wouldn't mind owning this piece and the price, especially factoring in the bracelet, is very fair to my eyes.

Will wearing this watch make me look fat? After buying this watch, how much better will I feel about myself? I know you said I should buy this, but will I do better with a Rolex?

The chrono hand lume seems uneven but that should not stop you buying this. Agree with others great find for that price.

I completely agree. Be careful, OP, or else instead of posting pictures of your new watch you will end up posting your story here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/the...eal-that-slipped-through-your-fingers.122686/

What was the price again...$7,600, hmm? The paint color doesn't look even, one tire is darker then the other besides the excessive wear, and it looks like someone placed a bumper sticker on top of the hood near the grill. Perfectly understandable why you are asking the Forum... I'd have second thoughts too. The price is too good to pass, run, don't walk.
