Hi OF! I recently picked up a Seamaster with an interesting plaid dial and I can't find anything like it online. It's been hard to photograph to give you more insight. It really picks up the light. It's a front loader so I haven't opened it and don't know what the movement looks like yet until I get it to a watchmaker. I'm cautiously optimistic. Runs like a charm and ticks loudly. Dial is a little dirty but looks like it could be cleaned gently by a professional. Also needs a correct Omega crown and crystal. I still can't find anything like it....anywhere! Here are some of the pics I took today. It's also on a USA made Omega bracelet. No clue what it would have been originally on. Have any of you ever run into anything like this? Do you think it's legit? Hoping you may have some insight! Thanks - Chris

I don't remember seeing one either but it looks original to me, though better pictures would help.
Nice find

Cool. I like it, in a 50s-60s plaid sort of way.
It'd be nice to get the ref when you have it serviced.
I bet it will clean up nicely!

What kind of date setting does it have? That could be a clue to what cal it is.

Quickset via crown being pulled out, cycling back-and-forth over midnight, does the crown have its own date setting option, or no quickset at all?

I would probably leave the dial as is, and not risk cleaning it.

Nice find overall definitely a lot of funk!

Very nice. It looks like etched aluminum. Great catch. 😀👍

Congrats on a good buy 😀

I don't think that the bracelet is an Omega item, only the folding clasp. Show off the clasp!

I think they give a smear of polywatch for post #100.
T-shirt doesn't come until post #500. 😉

That was my first thought--the endlink says USA. Looks pretty good with that bracelet though.

For me it looks like a US front leoader.

As the movement is not accessable so easily for potential watch tinkerers (or should I better say butchers) I am bold to predict it should have a clean and undamaged movement inside.

Dials can not be cleaned in more than 90%
most what can be done without harming the dial is brush off loose dust - thats it.

Every other attempt with any cleaning solutions may end up in a desaster.

There are few dials which can be rescued with the "lemon juice method" but this is for experts who know what they do and on what kind of dial it is appropriate.

Leave the dial as is, it looks fine

just my 2 cents

I'll leave the dial as is! No problems there. The crown has been replaced so I know someone's been inside at least once!! Thanks for the comments everyone. I've got a good watchmaker that will be opening it up this weekend. I'll get movement photos and post.

Went to @ahartfie watchmaker and alas! He wasn't in. Hopefully back this week. The suspense is killing me to peek under the hood of this front loader. Thanks for the nice picture @ahartfie!

Looks like ref. 14770 with cal. 563, which often has unique dials.

Without wanting to be a party pooper, I think the dial has been re-done at some stage.

The OMEGA is not centred correctly, the vertical bar of the E should be closer to centre, that is, almost directly beneath the gap in the Ω. However, the AUTOMATIC seems to be correctly positioned which makes the OMEGA stand out even more.
The Seamaster is tilted, not level with the etching.

I also think I can see some residual minute markers, mainly between 5 and 10, but it could just be random spots.

While the shot isn't absolutely dead square on, it's enough to make me doubt originality. Not that it is a bad thing, many watches of this vintage were cleaned and re-inked as part of a service, the owners and watchmakers were not thinking of pedantic collectors yet to be born.

I've attached a shot to support my theory and welcome any comment.
