Thanks dsio for putting up the image of the restored dial. I hope to send some more images of the completed watch to dsio next week. The dial arrived yesterday from the refinishers in California (whew!) and I have given it to my watchmaker. While waiting for it, I saw that Watchco was auctioning a near mint cal.355 movement and I was able to win that. It came from Zubuchan's old business in Switzerland. Accordingly, the movement has been fully restored using the best of available parts of the two movements but retaining all original numbers. My watchmaker says it is as perfect a movement as he could build and he described it as now near new in all respects. It has regulated beautifully. I have also obtained a NOS crown and a NOS Omega crystal which are being used. It will be on a black Omega leather band with a GF Omega buckle that is a real one, not a repro. I hope to secure a 14 K buckle eventually to match the case. Although the dial is not perfect, I feel it is way better than satisfactory, especially to the naked eye. Kirk Rich have done a great job and I was surprised how reasonable their charges were. They have returned the dial with the centre with a more satin finish and the facits polished. Desmond Guilfoyle has seen some images and confirmed to me that they are right to have done this. I am looking forward to some serious wrist time with this lovely old lady soon and I promise to send some more pics for your consideration then. In view of our earlier chats, it will have long hands re-fitted, which I hope everyone agrees is the most appropriate. My plan to try to rectify this grand old Omega lady is near fruition. Jonardi

Certainly looks a hell of a lot better. Welded to your wrist, Jonardi? 😀

Thanks dsio for putting these up and to Mothra for his comment. It is beautiful to wear and regard. I have only had it for a few hours. I have also sent some movement pics to dsio, so I am sure they will be up soon. I am satisfied with the result. Its a "keeper" and will be an heirloom for my kids to bicker over, but hopefully a long way in the future. I am happy with my rescue. It will be sharing wrist time with my recent NOS "Soccer" on its shark mesh and a loverly old Ranchero that I have also had restored, but it will be used and appreciated. I am interested in your reactions to it. We all know its restored, but isn't the result worth the journey?
