Seamaster "Deluxe" query

Hi everyone,

Recently stumbled on the forum and found it to be a really useful resource so decided to stop lurking and join in.

I have several Omegas from the 50s and 60s, but recently acquired a 14k gold Omega Seamaster, I believe it's a 1966 14701 SC, however I had a query about the dial. It appears to be a solid gold dial, sharing the same brushed effect as other deluxe models on the site, however these mainly seem to be 18k models. Is anyone aware if these were offered in 14k?

I know the best way would be to take it to a watchmaker and remove the dial to check, and I'll likely do this in time when I have it serviced.

To me the case appears a little rubbed, possibly from wear or an over zealous polishing but I was aware of this when purchasing. Would I be correct that it should be sharper faceted?

I welcome your more educated thoughts!

The case looks over polished from looking at the lugs and seamaster logo on the back.
Also the hands look like they've been replaced

I believe the hands are original, in person they are the same colour as the indices but with some patina.
I'd be interested to see an unpolished case to compare.

The hour and minute hands usually have a line down the middle which is why they look like they are unlikely original

Do you have any reference for this, as I have seen non-lume varieties without the line on this dauphine style?

Hands appear to be completely flat in the photos, original Omega hands would typically have a slight dome or pitch.

This might help - mine is a 14K gold 166001 from 1963, but a very similar case. Your case is somewhat rubbed, but I have seen much worse.

A solid gold dial will be usually be marked OM (Or Massif) either side of Swiss Made at the bottom of the dial.

Many original owners were not trying to keep their watches in pristine original condition for the sake of future collectors. Yours has seen some wear and polishing which could mean the first or subsequent owners were proud of their watch and wanted it to look its best whenever they wore it.
I believe the hands are original,
As others have mentioned, The hands look to be generic replacements and don't have the fineness of the original Omega Dauphine hands. The hour hand also looks proportionally broader than the minute hand compared to a set of Omega hands.

Once you know the case reference you can start a search for some correct hands if that's what you want to do.
