Seamaster De Ville Automatic, authentic?

Hi everyone, I recently got this watch. It hasn’t been opened yet. I am going to take it to service soon. I was just wondering in the meantime what you guys think regarding age and authenticity? It’s got an automatic movement and runs ok after a few winds, not terribly off… I’m looking forward to wear it daily (hoping it is at least splash proof). Many thanks for your time and thoughts.

P.S.: I found it rather unusual to discover watchmaker marks on the outside of the case!

It is real and I wouldn’t get it wet at all until a watchmaker changes the seals and assesses that as that crown is likely very old as are the seals.

Interesting dial variant!

Watchmaker marks on the outside of the case aren’t unheard of, but still don’t fail to puzzle me. Whoever would think of this as a good idea…
If they came to me with their car for an oil change I’d be too happy to note it down for them. On their bonnet.

Regarding the age, as far as I know SM De Ville was produced between 62 and 66. De Ville (without Seamaster addition on the dial) became 67 own sub division (SM, Constellation, Speedmaster and De Ville).

Inside or outside is a bad idea these days IMO. Tends to be practiced only by "old timers" these days. I've seen marks scratched right on the movement parts sometimes - crazy shit happened back in the day...
