Potential purchase not full convinced that the watch calendar is original or crown but need a second opinion, i have been offered the watch for 500 on the nose, i like the bracelet.

Any ideas of the age was putting it around 60 -70s

I have been told the watch has been serviced and fully working but might be a sales tactic

It's early-mid 60's. Reference number is in the case back (166.003).

The dial has some stains/wear/damage that may or may not look worse in the flesh.

Is there proof of service?

500 in what currency?

Hi

No servise history just mentioned that it has in the advertisement.

The cost 500 British pounds

The cosmetic rating from 1 - 10 has been given a 5 as the face has some discolouration , is it not possible to have it cleaned ?

I would assume a proper service is needed

Cleaning would lower the value in the eyes of a collector. Not too terribly over priced. If you want it as a wearer it might be worth it. As a collectible, there are better examples to be had.

Nice looking watch and bracelet. I expect the slight discolouration (note the UK spelling) will be close to invisible when you see the actual watch and the bracelet makes it a good value deal.

You can ask the vendor to provide a copy of the service invoice. If he’s a dealer, the invoice may refer to a number of watches serviced but it is nice to have it.

The 165.003 case has a recessed crown so you may need to get a crown winder off eBay.

Does the vendor have a returns policy. That would be encouraging.

I bought this 552 last month for £575. It was serviced. I thought that was a good price.

If the dial was good the price is ok, especially if the bracelet is included (vintage watches are slightly more expensive in the UK than the US).

However, the dial could look worse or better in person and this will have a significant impact on value.

Cleaning is a gamble. It may work or it may ruin the dial, cutting the value of the watch by 50%.

The serial number on your query dates it as 1965

A sympathetic clean not a restoration

I like it. Do not forget the bracelet is already worth close or around 100.

I thought good condition BoR's were going for about USD $400 or so?

No way. $130-200 is the norm.

You always get some sellers on eBay looking at flat link bracelets, assuming a rising tide lifts all boats and asking silly money but they shouldnt sell at that price.
