As for the rotor scraping...99.999% of the time it's a worn pinion in the rotor...I replace these all the time.
Please excuse me dredging up such an old thread but you say that although the auto module is no longer available, you have serviced these modules: With the whole module no longer available, what part do you find you need most please? I have a badly worn 751 needing the module and I am wondering which parts I should start with, where the rotor no longer winds the mainspring.
(OTOH I also hava a cal 1418 with that massive rotor scrping noise, yet the rotor does wind the mainspring fine and I wasnt planning on replacing anything on it! Possibly I should look for a new rotor?)

It needs to be disassembled and all the parts inspected for wear to determine what requires replacement. There are 4 wheels inside, plus one bushing, plus the pinion on the rotor...all of these can need replacement.

·THANK YOU for your input but I was hoping for a description of what usually goes wrong so I can buy a part and try it out on an easy repair. i dont mind a bit of disassembly but if I have to start gauging what has such wear (that nothing meshes any more), I am a bit at a loss.
But at the moment, when eBay is dead as a doornail for sellers, I don't mind tinkering around a bit
For how dead eBay is for sellers, look how much shill bidding the owner of https://www.ebay.com/itm/233475292645?ul_noapp=true&autorefresh=true had to do to get his rather nice $800-$1200 watch to wheeze its way over $400!
For such a loss, I suppose I can scout around a bit for a rotor/bridge module!
