found this on a local watch buy and sell page and might possibly be my first omega and my first ‘real’ watch. Before I buy, was just wanting to know a little more general information on the watch, dial and possibly an estimate on how much this watch could be worth. The buyer has given this information about the watch. He says it is a sea master Calibre 552 35mm x 18mm lug to lug with a rare 12,3,6,9 dial. The dial has a vertically brushed finish, pie pan dial which is matched with an omega curved plexi.

    Thank you in advance

I'm not exactly a fan of this case shape, but all the parts look pretty good. I think the reference is a 165.002. I'd throw 200-300 at it, though you probably want to see some movement photos and check if the crystal has the Omega logo etched into the center. I assume the piece is keeping time well.

Just a heads-up, this dial isn't a pie pan - I believe that term is reserved for the constellation dials with distinct 12 faces instead of the typical dome shape of the dial.

The one you are looking at is worth a bit more than 200-300 in my book and a nice watch. Above one was 400 a few years back

You can PM me what he is asking if you want or just mention it here.

Would make a nice watch if it's not crazy pricey.

Classic design and nicely sized for a vintage watch - cal. 55x movements are very reliable. 1000 AUD is a bit high IMO, especially without a picture of the mechanism or service history.

That is taking the piss. If not serviced, it should be half that.

What part of Aus you from?

Bit too high $700aud would be about right 800 max. You need to see the movement and know when it was or not serviced before anything but.

( Many here will quote a fair bit lower but that is with time and collecting knowledge ) we mostly talk US $s here as I was above.

Buying anything in Australia is expensive and I would expect that in a Dealers but not a buy and sell page. These are $1000aud all day every day in a watch dealers window.

You can buy from here on the private sales forum. Just keep a eye out and PM the seller as you need 200 post to reply in FS posts.

DB4864C0-3FF7-43A5-8E5D-A315A6C2AABE.jpeg Nice early 60’s Seamaster, lugs still look nice and crisp and these dials seem to survive very well. You want a series of movement shots or some confirmation of service in an ideal world. 1000AUD is about £575, which is steep for a non-date without a service. £300-350 is a bit more realistic. My ‘63 Cal 562, 166.002 says hi. On a cheapish Milanese for a bit of a change up for the New Year. Nice to see one the same Standy, this dial layout doesn’t seem to appear very often.

Anything with a 552 has the potential to be great. This is a very solid and very well made movement. Servicing can get expensive if it needs too many parts. However that can be tempered by how well you'd like it to keep time. What I mean by that is, a cheap service will get it going and make it run fairly well. A proper service by a specialist where everything is inspected and worn pieces replaced can produce a movement that will be in or close to COSC territory.

The amazing thing about these is that you can buy a whole watch for not a lot more than people will pay for the movement alone, thats a win :)

    Thanks @STANDY

Mine gets a lot of wrist time, as comfortable on the Milanese as on leather strap surprisingly. Get that one of yours serviced and give it a run out, you know it makes sense...
    Is yours a Cal 562?

Great thread, love that 39 jewel GP. Quite where you fit in another 15 jewels over a 562 I have no idea...
