Sapphire Sandwich mainspring and service

Hey crew,

I got about a year and a half out of a nicely aged early 90s Speedmaster before mainspring died.

Just curious on repairs as I'm new to doing it:

"Your watch needs a Mainspring, Service and Seals. We guesstimate the cost would be $909.00"

That seem legit with a matter watchable there, but also an Omega specialist who is going to Midwest for more Omega PD this Summer. Staff was super friendly and knowledgable and I think they are listed as an authorized repairs center.

Thanks
SLC

Did they actually use the word "guesstimate"? 😒

$900 seems a little bit steep to me but I have no idea what a new mainspring costs so I can't say for sure.

The cost of the mainspring is pretty inconsequential in the overall cost of the service. To replace the mainspring and do the job properly, the movement needs to be pretty much completely disassembled - although I'm sure you could find a hack who would do minimal disassembly if you really looked.

No idea where the OP is located, but they should check Omega's official pricing for comparison. Without knowing the full scope of what is going to be done, what parts will be replaced, etc., you can't really judge if the price is reasonable or not.

Cheers, Al
