Sorry if this has already been asked, but is it safe to “second hack” a 861 caliber from 1991?

Is this with the provision that it doesn't run backwards as that would damage the pallet fork? I seem to recall reading something like that.

Sure, but why? Does it really matter if you are 20secs. fast or slow? Is you daily schedule that tight? A man with more than watch never really knows what time it is anyway.
