Trying to identify a vintage omega watch

This watch belonged to my grandfather. He was always very proud of it. It has been in storage for a long time but still works amazingly. I am trying to determine year and model. Thanks for your help.

What you have there is a mid-1950s (likely ‘55-57) Omega Seamaster 2846 reference in a gold capped (solid gold over steel) case. The movement will be a 500 or 50- caliber automatic.

These are great watches, you should enjoy it! I would not however that even if it’s keeping good time, it almost definitely needs a service (needs it every 5 years or so because the oils dry up). If you’re not going to wear it often, I wouldn’t worry about that much, though.
