Another Desmond Disciple here too. Got a little help from some others too along the way, then one day I realized I was the one being asked questions instead of the n00b who was asking them. Never did figure out exactly how or when it happened. Now there's A Journey Through Time and dedicated Speedmaster books to make life a little easier...... sometimes.

And another.

As a Connie infatuated 3 post newbie on WUS some years ago I sent Desmond a PM with the usual inane questions "what do you think of this one" etc.

I received a prompt, well reasoned answer and some pointers for my future forays into Connies.

The vintage watch community owes him, and some of his contemporaries, a big one.

One of the things that is sometimes difficult for folks to master is the art of Not responding to inquiries. That is: you may have the answer to a post, but don't always try to be the first to reply. You can bet dollars to Dunkin Donuts that someone else knows the answer too. Give others a chance. As stated by Ash above, people learn while here, give them a chance to try out their new knowledge and super powers. Sure mistakes will be made, we all make mistakes. Someone will chime in to correct things, the world will still turn. Teaching is the road to mastery.

Look what happened when we gave PatrickJ and whoever he is now a chance ....😗

Great advice above, have your say and leave a bit for the next, no need to push your opinions past a certain point where it becomes frustrating for you or the noob.
Help when you can, learn when you can't.

11/ we are not your private fashion gurus and can not tell if a watch suits you or not ( unless we see everything you are wearing as a wrist suits every watch ever made )
well we can.....but may just choose not to

I saw a nature documentary that mentioned Omega wolf.
Did/does Omega breed wolves for returning to wild? If so; what a nice down to earth company they are. 😀

I've learned pretty much everything I know from the forum and someone always has the answer to a question. More times than not, I think I have the answer and it's reconfirmed by many other members. Fun place to be, although it eats up a lot of my time.

How touching, they've even made an animation for the kiddo's too.

Sorry for wasting your time Italy1861. I was joking to appease the Noob mention.
Thanks all for your patience towards me ~ coulda done without the kittys though. 😀
Is this better 😎

Yep, saw a couple posts by him recently. He's semi-retired now and enjoying life, trying to get down to a zen-like total of only 7 watches.

How about "no posting in WRUW today while not engaging or contributing elsewhere" or is that too restrictive?

Though I am a NOOB, I thought this appropriate. We have this on my forum...ENJOY!

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting

I thought it good enough to temporarily post as a sticky in Open Discussion and Vintage. We'll see how long we decide to keep it, no replies will be permitted.

I've been a big Omega fan from the moment I began my foray into the world of mechanical watches not too long ago. I was lucky enough to come across this excellent site/community a few months back, reading and frequenting on a regular basis. Just three days ago, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased my first Omega (DSOTM Pitch Black). That same day, officially registered on the forums and felt great doing so!

It seems apropos that I make my first ever post in this noob thread. I vow to do my best to be as little of an annoying noob as possible.

P.S. Can someone recommend a good scotch which will go well with my new Omega and not clash with my socks? 😉

Okay, it's obvious you've read some threads judging by the last sentence in your post. So if you've been lurking, you know that you MUST post pictures of your new DSOTM.
