Wouldn’t subscribe to this “investor guru’s” newsletter if you paid me. Let’s see:

“On the secondary market, Rolex watches trade for upwards of $15,000, about three times higher than prices observed in 2011.”

First, he doesn’t know anything about current market prices. Second, if he’s advising to jump on the bandwagon now for an investment, he doesn’t know what he’s doing (unless he has a way to buy at retail). It’s like an investor saying “Gold is at an all time high; time to invest now!”

A great strategy to lose a bunch of money quickly.

I wish Rolex would do a space watch.
They tried, couldn’t pass the testing. If they could have snuck a watch into one of the Gemini pilot’s pockets they would have. Their shameless (and often half truth) self promotion isn’t a recent phenomenon.

to be fair, he merely describes himself as “the son of a financial advisor”

This YouTuber is currently under discussion in another thread in OF for some rather distasteful behavior, if not borderline theft, from one of our very own members not in the best of condition over it all. I suppose we can all choose to separate “the art” from “the artist” but at the moment this guys videos taste even worse than before (don’t forget this is the same ass-hat with the sharp-case-gate clickbait routine at the 3861 release).

Palm Fronds are soooooo yesterday.

Hey, we don’t kink shame on OF!

Oh, I absolutely agree with you. Had I I known that “YouTuber” as described in the other thread was the same guy, I never would have posted the Palm Fronds video. Shameful behavior on YouTuber’s part and he should be outed for it.

The guy can be complete scumbag and still make a good video...I wouldn't beat yourself up over posting it.

Thanks, Al. I’m not, but the circumstances described in the other thread are disturbing.

Ha! Agreed and here's a fun fact that some of you might not know; This article went out to anyone and everyone that is on SOFI's mailing list. Customers and non-customers, anyone who has not yet opted-out of their daily newsletter, The SOFI Daily which is headlined / subject lined by usually an editorial article. That number is at minimum in the mid six figure range. Student loan, home loan, hard money loan, banking, really whatever service the offer, etc. gets this news letter. It was in my inbox and I was hesitant to post anything about it here, but after reading the "article" I felt something should be added.

In all honesty as a customer of theirs, I was pretty frustrated by this article and the haphazard nature with which the blasé language was strung together. It was a bit irresponsible of them to send this out IMHO, primarily because of the audience it's targeting. With it's prices "near three times higher" tid-bit, it's near prophesizing ROI's on an "asset" class that many of the population here in the U.S. can't come close to afford buying out right with cash (basing this generalization on the median income of USA as it pertains only to median home price, let alone current cost of living) nor understand. On top of that the article's audience is primarily aimed at are people who have come to SOFI to relieve a financial burden (at one time SOFI is/was the largest student loan refinancing company in the country, I'm not sure if they still are) and this article is loosly promoting a "Get Rich" scheme. Look don't get me wrong I understand that watches can be investments and great gains can be realized. That being said for the general population that this article is sent to, it is leading people to jump on the band wagon where those who are looking to get on the wagon, the potential new investors, are individuals who have been financially marginalized by a public education system that does to emphasize financial literacy.

Okay rant done....hope y'all have a good night!

Oh but before I go, I realized they tie a nice little bow on the article with this lovely CYA note just above the author's bio:
"Please understand that this information provided is general in nature and shouldn’t be construed as a recommendation or solicitation of any products offered by SoFi’s affiliates and subsidiaries. In addition, this information is by no means meant to provide investment or financial advice, nor is it intended to serve as the basis for any investment decision or recommendation to buy or sell any asset. Keep in mind that investing involves risk, and past performance of an asset never guarantees future results or returns. It’s important for investors to consider their specific financial needs, goals, and risk profile before making an investment decision."

let's be real here. Not to take away the original testing and certification but Rolex has been to space and even Times is NASA certified. These days it does not take that much.

Of course- it’s just fun to poke at them because they are so arrogant. Many a-GMT graced the wrists of astronauts…as did Glycine Airmen, and Accutron’s

What really surprised me is that in the 80's Timex was certified as well. Or maybe early 90's. At this point with Virgin, Amazon and Tesla all going and coming there is slightly less value on what anyone takes up there.

Not surprising considering how popular IronMan line is with the military. I’m sure a fair number still fly.

I recently got one (a timex) and i have to say I'm very happy and impressed with it. The quality far surpasses the price (at around $200) I'm on the waiting list for one of the new analog navigators. Cool brand that I want to explore more.
