Rolex Watches - A Budding Asset Class?

While in Philly for work last week I took my Tudor GMT.
I had TWO people ask me if it was a Pepsi GMT. And they said "Pepsi GMT", so I thought I was at least in the company of fellow watch people.
I said no, Tudor GMT and the one guy just said "oh" and walked away and then the other the following day said "Tudor? Never heard of them" and also walked off lol.
I just find it to be entertaining. What if it had been a Rolex??? I can't sleep at night not knowing what stimulating conversations may have followed...

Just decided to park the Baltics I’ve been wearing recently to sail in the Caribbean for this. Because of stupid articles like the OP article, stupid Rolex, stupid consumer behavior, and theft, this veteran of global travel and Caribbean sailing adventures rarely leaves the house anymore.

Lol- I love that there seems to be two camps of Rolex owners.

1) Need a Rolex to flex
2) Have Rolexes and don’t want to give the impression that I am flexing

3) Bought a Rolex as a bomb proof dependable tool watch because, yea it’s a f…ing Rolex. Didn’t see it as an “asset class”. Still don’t. I was sick of “glass jaw” automatics and changing batteries. The vintage addiction came later.

Same. My gmt is a testament to how much abuse they can truly take (20 years with it this year)- and we’re talking hard back country field duty- not desk diving.
And no Palm Fronds on mine

Exactly.

Or...There's a 50% chance of Rain because Rain is a thing...or it's not a thing.

Or how about - since “collectibles” (including watches, art, stamps, etc.) are obviously a long-recognized “asset class”:

Rain: a budding new wet thing.

I'm just waiting for them to release "The Tulips Dials".

Edit: I just updated it as I realised Rolex couldn't just rely on a single dial style to generate a "must get them all" frenzy.

I suspect the "Black Tulip" dial will only be reserved for specific clients.

I’ve never dreamt of owning a Rolex, but those fronds just do it for me. Is it available in 32mm?

44mm, because it’s 2012

What I would find truly inspired is if Rolex pulls a Banksey and all Palm Frond watches incinerate simultaneously next Ash Wednesday. But that would be giving them too much credit for creativity.
