I guess you are misunderstanding what Nobel Prize and I are saying?

It says on their web site:
"Inspired by the "Paul Newman" Daytona, the dial has been enhanced ...blablabla...etc."

This is a Paul Newman Daytona:

Paul-Newman-Les-Images-d-une-vie-byRolex.jpg
Paul-Newman-Daytona-Rolex.jpg

The above ones probably being his own but some Daytonas looking somewhat like that are now called a "Paul Newman Daytona". An old reference Rolex Daytona.

I wonder what the "inspired by" part is? The price maybe... It does not look anything like the old ones.

To be more precise a Paul Newman Must be an Exotic Dial Panda. It used to just be the white/black but now applies to all exotic dials. Even reverse pandas now.
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/reference-points-the-paul-newman-daytona

Good starting point to understand the differences with the slightly less attractive exotic dials, hence sold in lower numbers. The only Newman inspired thing on that black modification is the offset color minute track.

Ah - The Thunderbird. Often overlooked for some strange reason. The steel/white gold one like yours is a wonderful version and it is on my list. The TT version - not so much.

if you wanna go all "fancy"... then i'd say the bestest one are the few AUTOMATICS, they did in the OQuartz case... i always had a soft spot for those... rare as hen's teeth...

Been there - done that. 😉 Very nice but sold it when I realized my vintage Seiko Superior was making the oysterquartz: s "superlative" precision look inferior.

Good looking though. But in the end I liked the bracelet more than the actual watch.

I should not post when drunk... I did not read your post properly. I could have deleted my post but I will let it be. Evidence of posting while under the influence...::facepalm1::

That rare AUTOMATIC is very nice (though heavily polished).

def. a "Genta vibe" in there ...

IIRC, these were called the "New Style" Oyster Perpetual Date-Just when they were introduced, were they not?

That SM shows where the date belongs! Never understood why designers so clumsily destroyed the symmetry of a circular object with a big frame at 3 like a pile of rocks.

so wait, the sm300 is not in contention? how so?
i have a vintage no-date, cca 1968. i've worn him for 7 yrs straight until march this year, when i put on the blue pilot (also in the pic). he's still just fine; i'm simply rotating him now with the blue omega pilot and their new, incoming buddy, the green tissot diver (see the green dial thread)
i'm a small landlord here in philly, and i do most of the 'dirty' work with my handymen (as well as all of the paperwork, of course). in the past 7 years i/we have rehabbed/turned over/rerented over a dozen properties, and done thousands of service calls for my, and other folks', properties. the sm300 was there with me nonstop, in temp extremes, wetness/moisture, dirt/dust, fumigations, for plumbing/electric, on roofs and in basements, for cement work, with frequent power tool vibrations, etc etc
i swim, but don't dive (and never would, with or without any watch lol). i also occasionally shower as well. 😜
in the past 7 years, the watch has accompanied me to weddings, funerals, birthday parties, corporate events (mrs omegabear, unlike your dirty pal here, is in the corporate world), etc etc (where i am made to wear an expensive suit, tie and shoes under extreme duress!)
i think the sm300 is the ultimate watch for any occasion, and this is just my own, non-expert, two cents...

While I'm relieved that you shower from time to time, please tell me you dont wear a vintage SM300 in the shower :whipped:

yup...you and my watchmaker both...as long as it has fresh gaskets, is regularly serviced, and i'm not showering in boiling acid, what's the problem? 😜
seriously, the sm300 is just fine.
plus, mrs omegabear got wind of this forum, found out vintage sm300 value is apparently more than few hundred bucks (thanks guys!), and kinda yelled at me for wearing that watch every day in extreme conditions...so, to keep peace in the house, i'm switching him around with the blue omega pilot and, shortly, the green tissot diver.

There are some bling rolex, but not more than any other brand including omega. In fact broadly speaking rolex is very utilitarian and tool like on its most popular lines.

There are some hideous bejeweled watches ( again like omega and others) but the subs, gmt, datejust and general oyster lines including Explorer are simple and plain.

Is it matter of people imposing the legend based on envy or misrepresentation? Is it a result of the appeal to some questionable characters? I don't know.

Why is a datejust or airking bling and a rail master or constellation is not? Why is a sub Bling but a seamaster not? Why is a deep sea bling and not a PO with its antireflective crystal and heft?

Why is a blackbay perfect but not a sub?

It's not the watches or the brand; it's the people.

+1. What might be considered bling to one person, might not be considered bling to another. My definition of "bling" would be these fashion watches ladled all over with glittering fake gemstones, oversized, and garish! And way over-priced! Using this definition of "bling", I don't see too many Rolex watches that would fit the image. Others may define "bling" as busy looking, and multi-coloured. Some ascribe the definition of "bling" to designs they simply don't like! To each his own! Rolex "bling"? No more than a Tesla, a Bentley, a Lamborghini, a Bugatti, or a Ferrari in my opinion.
