It will probably pass authentication and come to you without a strap

The sad part is this is quite likely an old Rolex pocketwatch movement with the shaft for the second hand cut short to make its incorrect position disappear. So if its described carefully and creatively enough it may be “authentic”.

for sale: genuine Rolex in special case.... and all the usual Ukrainian fudge.

Authentication is "free for a limited time."

That implies to me that in the future, someone will be charged for this service. I assume it will be the buyer?

I'm not an idiot. that's why I'm making a deal with the seller for this watch outside of Ebay. I'm not going to risk letting some dummy authenticator damage my purchase.

Looking forward to pics when you have it in hand preferably with a newspaper to date the pics and your smiling face included.🍿

I would assume it's the seller who will pay. Just like all retail transactions I'm aware of: seller gets the money, seller pays the fees. I understand that sellers can and do raise prices to cover fees, so the buyer will end up paying them indirectly. But I think it will be the seller who gets the bill, so to speak.

Good call. To add, it's already at a steal for the Buy it Now price. I'd say definitely offer to pay a bit more. You don't want this baby slipping away.

Ah I was too late. The seller just told me it's on it's way to Australia. Some master watch maker is adding it to his collection.

I think it will remain a free service and that is a generic phrasing they are using across the authenticity guarantee products (just watches and sneakers right now). If you dig deeper, it shows as a free service and then in fine print it says (for a limited time for sneakers).

This makes sense. On a $2k watch they are making around a $200 final value fee and probably $50 between shipping and authenticating (they still have the margin to make good money). I imagine they can ship 2 day for next to nothing. On a $150 sneaker, that is only a $15 final value fee.

Thus the old saying “getting shafted”?
