Rolex Submariner spring bars

Thinking of putting my 2008 sub on a NATO strap, it does not have the lugs holes drilled all the way through, does anyone use shoulderless bars for a more rigid fit, only downside I guess is they will need to be snipped out if I want the bracelet back on. Was thinking of 20mm x 2mm x 1.2mm with 2.8mm pivots?

Any advice welcome

Thanks

I would not use the shoulderless but it is your watch.

Don't know if you have tried this before.
I have not but have come across a couple with a leather strap and the shoulder stuck on the case.
While cutting you could damage the case, it is an unnecessary headache.
Just my opinion..

I also would not advise using shoulderless spring bars in a watch without drilled lugs. Do you really want to have to buy a new pair of spring bars every time you want to switch back to the bracelet? Just get some regular ones.

Spring bars are not that expensive, it's more about something being secure with a NATO strap

If you buy high quality spring bars, it is extremely unlikely that you will ever have one fail on you. And even if one does, the entire point of NATO straps is to protect your watch if a spring bar fails. So just shell out the $10 for these and you won't have to worry about it.

NATO straps are crap. They make adjusting the watch for putting over a wet suit more tedious, especially on a moving boat. They don't dry out quickly. They actually stress the spring bars more than the bracelet. And most critical of all, they don't break free in the event you get stuck on something that you really shouldn't be stuck to; something that a bracelet will do eventually but only under strong trauma. It's more important to break free under such circumstances than save the damn watch. On top of everything else, they are a pain to clean and can wear out in a short period of time. The bracelet that came with your sub is beautifully engineered, and the best thing to have the watch on. Get an AD to put new Rolex spring bars on if you're worried. NATO straps were selected by armed forces for one reason: they were cheap, easy to fit on a broad variety of wrists and could be made out of any old material they had in surplus. They were never good straps.
