Or Halloween. With that Rolex, it’s the same thing. Could they fit any more text on that dial? I still see a little space left here and there. 😁

Watch design peaked in the period between the 1940's and the early 1960's IMHO

Yeah, gotta agree that the earlier chronograph is the one I'd choose for appearance.

At least there are no cartoon characters on the dial. 😁

Although I’m not a gold watch guy, I’d go with the modern Daytona. The vintage chronograph dial is way too busy for me. But as Will Shakespeare said, “Beauty is bought by judgment of the eye.”

I don't care for either of those. Watches should be ...

As someone who is not a fan of the Daytona, I actually don't mind that one.
I wish I still had Photoshop, because I would love to see the Daytona hands/dial in the the vintage case above it.
Someone with the Magnetic Lasso make it happen!

Not a fan of either, but the vintage would get my vote for sure. The modern version has lost any elegance that the vintage model had...

The modern is just so over designed. It's like they were in a committee and someone said, "I know, we'll keep everything and just make everything bigger!"

Once you see it, it's hard not to see. This is not coming from a hatred for Rolex, as much as the Rolex fanboys believe otherwise. More like a feeling of loss.

(Not a fan of truncated sub-dials but your point is made well with the two juxtaposed photos.)

Agreed, and I share a similar sentiment for the modern SMP 300m vs. the Brosnan era.

Got to say it’s neither for me. The modern one looks all wrong - what’s with those Endlinks on a bracelet?!
Equally, the vintage is far too busy and would give me a headache looking at it

de gustibus non est disputandum...
But we can say the same for most modern designs of well-known watch brands, Breitling, Omega, etc...

I will take both since you are all bitching. I would wear either or both at one time. I like a lot of words on the dial I can read them if I’m bored.

I only had one Rolex and dummy me got a quartz Cellini. When I bought my wife her ring I got myself a Rolex in the diamond district in NYC. I just liked watches back then and grew up with quartz I really didn’t understand what I was doing at the time, just picking out a watch I liked.

Looking back now I could have got a automatic for not much more. As the years passed I came to realize I don’t much like gold watches. I was rudely chastised here when I first joined as people assumed I was trying to sell it pre 10,000 posts which hurt me deeply and I don’t think I fully recovered yet. I never sold anything here. As a matter of a fact I have bought six watches on this forum and never sold a thing here so shame on you whoever accused me of trying to break the rules.

I did post it as I was trying to learn about it and figure out what to do since I no longer liked it. In the end I sold it to watch box for a little more than I paid for it. That allowed me to get my first mundane speedy and give money to my wife. I shit you not watchbox just got a new ostrich band for it and put it up for sale for 40k about 2 months later. Shoot I didn’t even get low five figures for it. I think someone actually bought it as well as it was gone a while later.
It does look nice in our wedding pictures at least and I guess I can’t get upset at the 40k thing as watchbox and govberg have access to people who will buy and spend that much I don’t. I just had a bunch of punks on a forum jumping to conclusions.

Sorry, I just wanted to tell my Rolex story I hope you enjoyed it. I may develop a new Rolex story when the time comes to pass, it will not involve a Daytona or any other major model put I do appreciate Rolex despite the many complaints people have against them. There old stuff is cool looking and you gotta appreciate their success in marketing even though it seems rather annoying in the current atmosphere.
