I wonder if one of the GMT Master fans could enlighten me on the topic of dials used on the 16750 GMT Master, specifically the rather short-lived matte black dials with painted hour markers and tritium lume used for the first few years of this reference (approximately 1979 to 1986) before the dial was changed to the glossy dial with white gold hour marker surrounds.

As far as I can tell the original 16750s came with a dial that looked essentially like the 1675, i.e. had tritium lumed hour markers. Most of the images that I have found online have that characteristic yellowing to varying degrees due to aging of the tritium. Here are some good examples I found here

Sometimes these hour markers can look very white, with just the faintest hint of yellowing; something I have also observed on older Submariners as shown below

But I came across a 16750 recently with markers that were so white I wondered if the dial was a fake, a redial, had been stripped of its lume or was some sort of service replacement.

The text at 6 o’clock also looks subtly different to anything I have found so far. The serial number on the above GMT Master is 6.7mil so I guess it’s in the right range for an early matte dial. What are your thoughts folks?

Looks like the watch has a bunch of service parts insert and hands for sure. Dial looks like the lume has been all washed off.

GMT should always be on a Jubilee. It just should

Before having both I would have disagreed but I will say the jubilee on GMT just works. It’s a sophisticated and sporty elegance that can only be experienced in person and on the wrist.

^ Couldn’t agree with you more, my favorite watch reference. Have had many over the years, wears like 1675 with quick set date.

Here is a nice 750 for sale right here on OF (I have no affiliation to the seller.)

https://omegaforums.net/threads/rol...50-from-1982-matte-dial-killer-patina.125220/

That is an absolute gorgeous piece and if I am not mistaken quite reasonably priced.

On a slight related note. Just had the pleasure of receiving a pepsi insert for my watch. I kinda feel lucky that I found one with these deep colors and in this condition.

Goes into the drawer for now. Don't have the skills or tools to change it my self so I'll need to send it to my watchmaker.

By the way, no need to put it away in a drawer, it's really easy to swap inserts. Plenty of DIY video clips on the web, special plastic tip plyers does help quite a bit.

Thanks I'll look into it. Are these plyers specifically for this sort of work or something you found useful and is your m.o.?

In the mean time I'll try to build enough co

If you can share a photo/link of said plyers I'd be very grateful.
