Rolex double red dial

I've always been reluctant to dip my toes in the Rolex waters, the prices and speculation make me wonder about a lot of dials. The brand new quality of so many dials on the market have me constantly scratching my head.
Can anyone please tell me how the printing on this dial could be this rough?
If it were another brand I collect I would be VERY suspicious, the hands too.

thanks for your thoughts Rolex dudes.

My watchmaker in Philly used to get a chuckle out of the Rolex nuts and their fascination with the double reds - and he was Rolex certified!

Get thee to VRF - there are numerous & incredibly detailed posts there on the many and varied nuances of the DRSD. Spacing of letters, position, minutia of fonts and serifs cross-indexed with serials & case configurations.... and on and on ad nauseum.

Kinda like the attention Speedmasters and Connies get here.::stirthepot::

Its the nauseum part I'm trying to avoid, I'm not terribly motivated to go research other forums, just thought someone might jump in.
Like I said, i'm not a Rolex collector just wondered about the printing standards vs other brands.

If you really want to educate yourself on these you have to do some homework. As Darlinboy says, visit the VRF dial archive.

EDIT: I would also like to add that if I were considering forking down the kind of cash these or other high ticket watches command these days, I would certainly dive head first into the "ad nauseam"..

I can say that this is a legitimate Mk IV dial. A very good one at that judging by those pictures...Compare it with my ex..

Again, I'm not going to buy any big ticket Rolex's, I have too many other afflictions.
I do exhaustive research of other brands that interest me.
But thanks for your opinion of the dial.

Yeah, who wants to do any actual work? It sounds exhausting.

I want my diet the same way - no actual exercise, just take a pill and shazam!

It IS exhausting. Probably why I don't mess with Rolex.

I don't know what really bother u about the dial n hands. The printing on this mark4 is peculiar to only this version. It looks like the paint was applied as dots. Maybe they were trying a new n different way of printing the dial? I don't think it was because of a sloppy job, since all mark 4 dials were printed this way, so it was intentional. So if it was a printing method, then it's not a quality issue. It could be an aesthetic issue, then beauty is in the eye of beholder, right?

As for the hands, if they were original, then I would say they r in pretty good condition since they r over 40 yrs old.

During that time, Rolex, omega n others use outside sources to produce parts for them. Sometimes quality control would lag. How do u explain the omega 220 insert? Do u stop buying omega because of this one daft mistake?

I blame it on the autoconnect.

So OK this dial vintage is an anomaly. That explains a lot. Thank you.

No I wouldn't stop buying Omega because they made a mistake, but if I saw an Omega dial like this I would ask the same questions.

I came in peace, Rolex people.

And now I shall go.

Nah! It's ok. We "Rolex people" can take it. Lol. [emoji109]

This is a watch discussion forum, so nothing is taboo I guess. Have a beer n a nice weekend.

IMO the Mark IV dial looks good by the letters and shapes, applied with dots as should be, but is too yellow for me... that looks something that doesn't match to me.
