Hi all,

I found an acrylic Datejust crystal in my parts bin. I can’t remember how I got it. Is there anyway to find out if it’s original or aftermarket?

Thanks in advance for those that will chime in.

Cheers

I have found that sometimes the after-market Rolex acrylic crystals fit, and sometimes they don’t. If your crystal actually fits a Date-Just, I have no idea how you would determine whether it is genuine, or otherwise. The Oyster-Date used a crystal similar to the Date-Just, but it is smaller in diameter. Not much help, I know.

Thanks for that. I expected it would be difficult to determine

When I was hunting for replacement crystals for my 16750, I did a little diving into how to spot originals from fakes and I recall one of the tells was the taper on the hi-top. Also the date magnifier on the aftermarket don’t really magnify- they appear to but don’t have the same level of magnification as the originals

I agree that the only possible tell, apart from the fit test, is the magnifier that usually doesn't have the same level of magnification in the aftermarket crystals.
