@noelekal , kindred spirit!
My high school buddy had an older friend who had a 70 dark green charger that he was selling. I wanted that so bad but instead got my grandfather's 63 Rambler 6 cylinder. The only positive thing about the Rambler was that it was built like a tank and could knock over postboxes.
You may be the only person this side of the Atlantic who knows what a Renault Caravelle is. I had 3 1/2 ( half was the rear of one turned into a trailer.)
My father-in-law was a mechanic who learned his trade from working with a WWII Seabie vet in South Dakota. They were both rock hounds and traveled all over, up to Alaska, across to the East Coast and down south. After he graduated he went on an epic trip with his friend/boss in a Renault Caravelle. I had never heard of one so had to look it up. I was smitten with the idea of finding one and restoring it with him.
Well, I found several. A guy in Idaho had 2 1/2 but would only sell them as a package deal. One ran, the other was sitting in the weeds and there was the trailer.
I got them home but soon learned a retired mechanic doesn't want to work on cars. He gave me advice but I was on my own. Got one running and it was a great car, although not very safe.
The Caravelle was a great looker, with the removable hard top and soft top combination. 95 hp rear engine got about 38 mpg and was plenty of pep. Wish I'd kept it.
The Dauphines were pretty popular. They got beat out by the VW bug eventually but had a good run.
