For seasoned collectors it will mean nothing. For Hodinkee-types it will be the holy grail. So how is Rolex supposed to get their hands on these pre-owned pieces? Through retailers taking in trades?

Agree completely. And it will inspire the fad followers to constantly be trading back to the Rolex dealer...who can form their own data base to access every CPO Rolex in the country, with agreed trading prices. And it will provide a lot of work for the Rolex service center that will be charged to the new buyer within the price and guarantee. I guess I'll aways be a used/vintage watch buyer...I've never seen a new watch that I felt was worth the money. Never.

I dont care much for the six digit serial lines so at best i hope it starts to punish the wannabe watch dealers and flippers by bringing prices back to reality as im sick of the profiteering. What im really hoping for is it levels out the prices for the modern classics of the five digit lines. Itll be interesting to see how this plays out, but im tired of scrolling through over polished 14060ms asking $10k with nub crown guards. Ill be curious to see how the greys, both small and big pan out.

Used to be, that you could walk into an AD, negotiate, and go home with a watch. Used to be that a Rolex on the wrist would either be ignored, or perhaps an enthusiast conversation might ensue. ( like the great watch nerd conversation my 1675 initiated with two retired NYC cops, also collectors, working security at the NYT building a few years back). Now because of flipping, watches as an investment nit wits, the media hype, one may as well be walking round with a brick of money strapped to your wrist. The public is only aware of bubble and greed. If this program drops prices back to earth, all good.

Personally for myself the thought of going to a main dealer and paying over list for a mass produced used product is not one I could countenance.

Agreed, as a citizen of nyc, itll be nice when people stopped getting shot or robbed for their watches again. Some of my patients are retired NYPD and are also collectors had warned me about it as well. What a different time.
