A completely different question: the cable ties were totally unnecessary right? The glass, even if partly broken, is still being held by the bezel or am I wrong?

What is the best way to personally send the watch to the watchmaker if the glass is broken? is there anything I have to look out for besides pulling the crown?

A piece of cardboard on top (cut to size) , ensuring it doesn't touch hnads or dial, then pack in tight box, then wrap again in plenty of bubble wrap. Definitely no cable ties. If possible remove strap / bracelet before shipping, but if too risky, just pad nicely. Send a photo to watchmaker, letting him know what to expect. Insure it!
