Beautiful patina. Have to pay a bit of a premium to get a "tropical" movement like that one.

No premium required - just go swimming in the ocean on a cruise without checking to see if both pusher caps are still in place. 馃榾

When I click on the eBay link I see that bidding ended at $1550 USD but the reserve wasn't met. How did you complete the purchase via eBay?

Yes, I see that too. I wonder what is going on there?

You bought a watch from the original owner and took a gamble. The lack of better dial pics was likely a reason it didn't go higher, which was working in your favour.

Had it been from a dealer, I'd say get a return case open. However, as it's from the original owner, I generally consider these as 'pays your money and takes your chance'. You'd have been over the moon had you got a bargain because of the bad dial pics. Can't have it both ways.

+ 1

The case is worth your entry money alone.......at that price....everything else is solvable

I realize it is not polite to ask how much you paid for the watch...........but how much did you pay for the watch? I think there are several people here that might want it given your comments that it actually runs AND the chronos function.

36hr power reserve and functioning...man, you are lucky!

Get it serviced and enjoy!

That's particularly annoying as I had one listed on eBay which sold for 拢1800/$2250 - and the winning bidder has asked to cancel as they apparently hadn't realised they can't afford it...

Hi everyone, thank you all so much for contributing to this discussion.

Let me reply to Al first - I am going to try to get some movement pictures that show the degree of corrosion to the movement. Will try and get them up by the end of the week. Based on my very quick look when the caseback was off - again not under magnification - lf the damage in your first photo is a "1" and your last photo is a "10", I would say this is about a 3. We didnt get deep into the movement though. And the reason my initial description was so dark was that the watchmaker seemed really repelled by it.

For those who are asking, I bought it through a second chance offer through ebay, for $2,000. I was attracted by the case too. The edges are super sharp, it has never been polished, and it has the minor dings and scratches that shows it has been worn.

Some background here - I have wanted a flightmaster for as long as I can remember. My grandfather had one, and it was the first watch I ever touched when I was a kid. Its what sparked my interest in watches in the first place.

I'm thinking of offering to cover part of the seller's listing fees. I think that would be more than convincing to an honest seller.

Thanks again for all of your input.

No need unless it is just a goodwill gesture because the seller should have all fees refunded when the sale is cancelled.
