Replacement acrylic crystal/glass

All,

I recently was able to pick up a spare case that matches this 14713...

The case is in nice condition but the crystal is missing.

Looking at replacement crystals it looks like there are a lot of different choices with regard to base and profile.

Can anyone tell me what make/style crystal would be the best match to the original?

Measuring the opening in the top of the case, I read 29.6 mm. My understanding is that the size should be 0.1 - 0.2 mm larger than the opening. But not familiar with these older-style acrylic crystals.

Many thanks,
-Paul

Proper crystal for this watch, according to Omega, is 062PN0298 | GLASS PLEXI D29.80 H3.10

Al,

Thanks for the extra detail.

Can I bother you with a couple of clarifying questions?

It seems Omega (mostly?) uses acrylic crystals with tension rings (meaning - their older watches which use acrylic crystals - are of the tension ring variety). Is this generally the case?

Tension ring crystals are pressed in and out with a crystal press (yes)? As opposed to using a crystal lift - as you would on a plain acrylic crystal.

Sorry for the novice questions - but that's how us novices roll. 😀

Thanks for all of your help!

Generally yes, but not all. The older watches, like this one, are using crystals that do not have tension rings, so this is a style that is compressed for installation, rather than being pressed into the case.

For tension ring crystals, yes a press is used with appropriate dies.

Cheers, Al

Ah - okay.

I was wondering - because I could see from the part number and description that you posted that the diameter was probably 29.8 mm. Which agrees with the opening + 0.2 "rule" that I have heard for the "plain" acrylic crystals.

Thanks,
