·Heuer Autavia 3646 (Andretti), Third Execution
Serial #: 96599. This places it in late 1968. From the Heuer Price Guide (Heuer Autavia Serial Numbers 1962-68 (heuerpriceguide.com):
This watch is tracked in Rich Crosthwaite’s Heuer Serial # Project and he has confirmed the watch as all-original and correct.
The watch sold (not to me) at Christie’s Geneva Auction in Nov. 2017 for $17,500 (CHF:USD rate was 1:1). See Heuer. A Fine Stainless Steel Chronograph Wristwatch (christies.com)
This is an iconic and rare model that needs no further explanation.
This version is driven by the Valjoux 92. The stainless-steel case is a 39mm wide and 13mm thick. This is a perfect size for a tool watch in my mind.
It is tough to find this model but especially in such good all-original condition, right down to the original chrono seconds hand and crown (these are often service replacements). Crown is signed. The sharp lug bevels are a highlight. The case is unpolished. The original lume is mostly intact with patina. Bezel insert is largely clean and unfaded with just a few small chips as shown. Coin edge is sharp. The only flaw to point out are some markings on the caseback as shown in photo, presumably from previous use of a NATO strap. These are not scratches or gouges. I am guessing these can be lightly buffed out, but I did not want to risk it, so will leave that decision to the buyer.
Everything works as it should. It keeps time reasonably for a vintage watch, the chrono operates and resets as it should, there are no issues. Service history is unknown.
I purchased a year ago from a well-known European dealer and have worn only a handful of times. I am in need of funds, so this must move on to the next steward.
Watch comes on a like-new Di-Modell Rallye GT black perforated strap.
More photos upon request.
$13,500 shipped (insured). Watch is located in the US. I will ship internationally.
I accept wire transfer, PayPal Friends & Family, or PayPal + 3%. No returns unless I have misrepresented something.
I have references on Watchuseek, Chronotrader, Enicar Forums, and eBay. Available upon request. This is my first listing on OF but I am a longtime member (2016).
Thanks for looking.
