Red Flag Advice - Omega Constellation Pie Pan - 168.005

Appreciate the pictures are poor quality but would appreciate any and all views on this watch! Private seller says it is all original (bar the strap), ref 168.005 from 1966 with 18k gold case and solid 18k gold dial.

Can’t decipher calibre from the pictures provided and suspicion that the dial has potentially been retouched - but defer to the experts on this forum on this and any other glaring red flags!

Many thanks

Just walk away from this one and keep looking. It's very bad.

As others said, redial, wrong crown, too polished. What was the asking price?

Asking was €4,300. What would you expect to pay for a good example of one of these (w/ solid 18k gold pie pan dial)? I’m really taken by the gold pie pans and would love to get one, but finding it tough to find good examples anywhere near that price point.
Thanks and also really appreciate all the expert help - really is a great community!

(w/ solid 18k gold pie pan dial)?
This one isn't marked OM, so likely not a solid gold dial (aside from other issues).

The watch is a bit of a mess, as others have said, with a very heavily polished case and a repainted dial - and not worth pursuing unless very, very, cheap.

Just for the record, only late 60s / early 70s Constellations had gold dials marked 'OM', for 'Or Massif'.
This one has the classic broad, flat, onyx inserts of a solid gold deluxe dial (and also the light vertical graining)

They vary. I just picked one up for 5,500 USD but that’s after waiting almost a year for the right one. It’s the same one you were looking at but crown is correct, and has not been touched in terms of polishing.

Admittedly I’m in the US so my selection was limited as I was not considering international pieces due to the tariffs we have in place right now.

Your watch is exceptional @amuscare87.
I'm surprised that it only took you a year to find one in that condition as watches like that really don't show up very often.

Thanks @Peemacgee . I think it was overlooked because it is inscribed on the back of the case back with the first owners name. Doesn’t bother me much as nobody will see it on the wrist and I don’t plan on ever selling it!

As Jim said, not sure it actually IS gold. IF not, I wouldn't pay $300 for it, and at that, as a parts movement. IF it actually IS gold, whatever the melt value of the case ends up being. Those are pretty thin cases, so I'd say $1500 maybe? But that could be a bad estimate.

@JimInOz was questioning whether the dial was a gold dial because it lacked the OM designation.
As outlined above, the dial has all the hallmarks (pardon the pun) that it IS a solid gold deluxe Constellation dial.

OH! Thanks for the clarification. Please disregard the 1st 1/2 of my post then 😀

@Peemacgee can you explain a little more in depth regarding the OM designation and what it means? Trying to follow along

OM at the bottom of the dial indicates that the dial blank itself is made of "solid" gold.

Thanks Dan, just looked up a picture and see what’s being referenced. Appreciate the explanation!
