·Beautiful piece... Could give a Cartier Tank a run for its money....
But, it in Japan... I hear high Duty/fees/taxes to bring in to the States.
Importing to the States is not hard. I have watches go right through customs and not get any import fees and then other watches get picked up in the system. There is also an $800 dollars exception which means anything under $800 should be nothing (of course doesn't apply for this watch but applies to lots of vintage Omegas). If they do get caught in the system, I think estimate of about 3 to 5% is about right but for caution would budget 5% and hope it is less or not charged at all. I would say cost is typically 3%. Three things go into it calculating the duty owed - movement, case and bracelet/strap. I lot of the value of a mechanical watch is in the movement so that can help keep the overall cost down as that is just a flat fee. I think it is like a $1.50 or so. If you end up getting a worksheet to complete by the shipper, I would put in a high value on the movement and keep value on case and bracelet lower. Also, this is not lying on avoiding taxes as the movement truly has a lot of value in a steel wrist watch. Of course, if watch is gold then this plays out a bit differently and you need to put a higher value on case and bracelet.
You may also pay a fee to shipper for processing customs but that should be around 30 to 40 dollars if it gets picked up. I have also bought more than one watch from this seller and can say I have had them go right through customs and also get picked up in the system so honestly no idea how it would play out for this watch.
Lastly, I would never import a watch with a Croc strap as that opens up a whole other set of issues.
