This one is beautiful. Anyone have experience importing from Australia to the USA and the duty rate on watches?
Not really sure, I’m guessing it might vary from state to state? @gatorcpa would know, typically Europe / UK are expensive but easy to understand while US is cheap but complicated.

Is there much interest from people btw if I put a bit more effort into these, I know prices have gone up a lot but there are still some 90s / 2000s Omegas that are great watches at great value points, they’ll all be a lot more than the vintage Omegas like geneves and devilles which I tend to focus on there, just not sure if people are keen?

I bought a watch from Australia once. It was sent EMS connecting to USPS. Fully declared, but no Customs Duty charged.

Each state may charge a use tax (generally equal to sales tax). Unlike the EU, there is no national system for use tax. Each state has its own rules on how this is collected. For personal purchases, you are more or less on the honor system. Although if you buy on many websites (including eBay and Amazon) they just charge you the use tax and pay it for you.

One common denominator among the states is that they can’t use the post office to collect. It is a federal agency.

Lack of uniformity is a distinctly American trait.

I really appreciate your help here. I've seen these from Japan but heard the duty from Japan is around 20%, is that correct? It sounds like its worth a try if Australia is low / zero.
Theoretically, the US Customs should be the same regardless of the country of origin (unless there are sanctions, and then, shame on you! :whipped:).

It’s sort of a bizarre thing that there’s an honor system on tax on imports but then so many people from the US don’t know what taxes to pay or how to pay them either, really can’t think of another country that has taxes that complicated or poorly understood.

As far as I know there is no charges on leaving Australia other than postage. On your end you would need to check locally. I wish this had come up when I was looking for one of these, It looks really nice and well priced.
It will be interesting to see what price it ends at.

1990s Omega DeVille Chronograph Calibre 861 in steel on bracelet, these are a really interesting combination of a Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch with a dress type bracelet and case at a low price just because most people don’t know it exists. For $1400 its a lot of watch.

Z-33 going no reserve in 10 hours, make sure to note the rubber strap has been sized to 7.5 inches so if you have a larger wrist you’ll need to buy a replacement, these rarely are seen going no reserve used so could be a good opportunity to pick up one of Omega’s most unique speciality watches

Only $1760 with 40 mins left, this one could stay pretty cheap given how much it flies under the radar but they’re a very cool piece

Great watch - that hasn’t seen the price skyrocket. 861 movements routinely sell for nearly this price. I owned one for a time a few years ago (white dial). Comfortable and good looking (no movement spacer makes it smaller than the Moonwatch).

One downside for me was the omega script. I prefer about any other writing

That’s exactly right, they literally sell for 861 movement cost and you get a free watch with it, but the case and bracelet are actually really nice, better quality than many other Omegas of the 90s period, there are both silver and black dials in steel and some gold and two-tone models too and they’re all commonly just ignored in spite of how good they are.
