Do you perhaps have the link to the mixed lot auction? if possible??
I’d prefer not to share here, but I can say that the current seller hasn’t prepared this watch in any way.

I understand. Still a pity you lost that auction. Must have been a super bargain to say the least...

It was a really bad image, and hard to figure out if it was 31mm or 35mm. Having now seen his pics, with hindsight I’d have bid at least 3x higher than I did.

Apologies for not wanting to share the links, but I think it’s useful to know that the watch is being offered for sale as it was bought, as so many of these 35mm Tre-Tacche are sold with recently “upgraded” dials. The evidence I’ve seen suggests this is a legitimate and fresh to market example.

Please don’t request a link by DM then get the hump when I reiterate that I prefer not to share !

“That's fine, you are not the first collector thinking they have an exclusive goldmine, I am used to this attitude. I wonder why bother sharing your sob story of being the underbidder though, you will get no sympathy without sharing. Good luck with your niche forum/auction house etc, maybe you get lucky in the future”

In defense, not me who requested the link via DM...!

Also, thanks for sharing the insight.

Sorry if I gave that impression !

No it’s a guy who has over 90% of his started threads in the sales forums, and if he’s “used to this attitude” you might expect him to realise why it’s so common 😁.

Could you at least share a picture of the lot? Or at least this watch in the lot.
Would be good for posterity to verify that this dial actually was born in this case 😀

and seems it is sold.
Not surprising after the info shared here. If the buyer flips it, OF and @w154 should get a cut for the validation. Heck, I would have been tempted too.

Can’t argue with your suggestion 😁

One important thing I would add is that the dial is a typical 1930s dial- how it landed together with an early 1940s case and a late 1940s movement is not so much of a mystery, given that this chunky case may well be bigger than the original one.
If I were betting, I would say this dial indeed probably started its life in a 31mm cushion case like the beautiful one from @chronovantage2 below— and the small size might explain the urge to relocate the dial to a larger case.

Also for comparison, another black sector dial from the same era in a cushion cases. (Mine, with thanks to @yako54 for selling me his).

You’ll note in the Ebay watch the uneven space between the bezel and the minute index, the dial looks like a small person borrowed someone else’s oversize sweat shirt.

Remember those dial types are prime transplant candidates, as proven in the thread below.

Hi Melanie, could you kindly post a picture? This is a very long thread and I can’t find the picture you’re alluding to. I have several olive or green straps, one of them is on the watch showed below with a bright green perlon but I can’t seem to find the other pictures. Feel free to shoot me a pm.

the braided one! ta!
The braided one is a 16mm “perlon” strap which you can readily find on Ebay, however you should be aware those may with time create marks on the steel back of a watch. It’s okay to wear from time to time but the watch is now outfitted with a green leather strap.

The paler green strap is a magical combo with that watch, great choice Syrte.
