That's happened to me too. You think to yourself, "they'll never accept this" and low and behold they accept it

Yup- that's how I got stuck with a Longines Weems- now getting looked at- in for a penny....

I should have just posted that one here but of course, it was cool, and I had never seen one that cheap, and I made a low ball offer....yeah, 2 days later I had totally forgotten about it and opened up eBay and there was something in my cart....shit.

GP Caravelle black dial with "tropical" patina. I normally hate the whole tropical thing but this is good looking- particularly with the gold indices. Looks to be in excellent shape.

To reciprocate and take a few of you down another rabbit hole.....I present MuDu! You can read more about this strange company - I did a write up on Mudu here. https://chronopedia.club/MuDu#MuDu

Most if not all will be for sale in UK, They are actually pretty well made with Felsa auto movements, normally with gold or gp cases i have one somewhere with 65 jewels marked on the dial! Here is one I found with steel case. They can be picked up for less than $100 and would make a conversation piece in any collection - Hey is that George Martins watch?!

I pick them up around $30-50 at fairs and shows.

Damn. I would think a Longines Weems would be well outside the scope of thread...

The case is plated. But at that price or a bit less even - who cares.

You can catch one or two per year being listed as ladies longines or a name like that. That's how i got my WW2 issued piece. 60$ + 30$ tax on import.
Sold it several years back for almost 1k$ when I exited the issued/military watch game. Too many fakes and frankens in my neck of the woods - started doubting everything.

I’ve been looking for Skin Divers lately and this one has been tempting me. Seems like a no fuss entry into the skin diver world(?).

I quite like this! Seems nice for 100$ with S&H I'd bite if it was within EU.

Well, I paid about 10x what you did but was still a good deal- the dial was stunning but the bezel a little rough. I still haven't worn it as it needs a service (runs for a bit and stops) but we'll see if I bond with it- otherwise it may end up on the FS here.

Single jewel and plated case, a little rich for what it is. For $200 you're in the SS case skins diver world.

    And what's in the cart?!?!::popcorn::

I just couldn't fall in love with mine, dunno if the case size or the lack of oomph i get from other military pieces when worn.

He got an offer at 95$ condition wise that's a nice watch i am a sucker for broad arrows.

Agree- if you want a $100 skin diver, I guess you would be hard pressed to find better these days.

Ya know, not buying watches posted on this thread can be perilous as well.

There have been more than a couple here that I have resisted.

By not buying, I figure that's an extra $50 or $100 that can a go toward a better example of something from my wish list, right?

Take this a step further and combine it with the human mind's beautiful ability to rationalize; I might be able to justify that vintage Ranchero sometime next year!

I thought it was plated. The plating on one of the lugs has rubbed thin on an edge.
If I’m honest that offer did tempt me. I researched them afterwards and I got the feeling the only way I could feel okay about the purchase was to make a counter offer. Still, it seems like a decent entry level price.
    Another skin diver lol!

This one is too steep in price. It was sold at a boutique in Beverly Hills, which looks like they over polished it and “serviced” the movement. It was in my cart because I was curious what the tax would be. Not to mention $43 in shipping?? I hate when sellers do this.

Not to mention it's the era of downward spiral for Benrus. With the Japanese movement, this is basically a glorified Belforte and thus 3x overpriced for what it is.

    This is a pretty watch-
14k solid gold Lord Elgin. Lugs have soft lines but I don't think it's polishing as that bezel is pretty damn sharp and the micro-scratching speaks to a watch not polished in the recent past- the soft lines just may be the shape of the lugs. Dial looks good...maybe even too good, but I can't see a tell of redial as the snailing in the sub-dial looks good...this just may be in great shape. No movement shot but we can assume this was the USA made era, most likely adj'd. Seller has make offer.
Keep this from going to the smelt.

Caravelle under $40. Dial is very nice, hands are fun and chunky (although the hour hand looks to be missing the lume-
That can be redone to match) plated case is decent with some chips on the underside.

My Caravel purchase came today and seems to be in all around excellent condition (knock on wood).
Winds easy and runs fine, seems to be accurate but only time will tell just how accurate.
From a tiny scratch on the case back near the slight scallop where a case back opener with fit and a nearly invisible mark on the dial near the base of the hands, along with what may be a replacement crystal, I suspect this watch has been worked on in the recent past. If so perhaps it got a full service. The hands and dial may have been removed and replaced during a service. The dial itself has no blemishes from age, only a very light dusting from degraded lume on the numerals.
The lume on the numerals was so neatly done that you can only see it with a loop.
I sure would have liked it if the lume were still active.
The dial has a hard to read JAPAN marking at the six. I expect it has a Citizen movement.
Case mikes about 33mm. Dial is a satiny silver.
Band is a cheap but comfortable new replacement. Good body but not stiff like some are.

If no unwanted surprises pop up I think I got a good one.
