Here are a few for funzies:

Nice one at 33mm, this is about as good as they get, USA adj movement (don’t forget that Elgin made rail watches like the BW Raymond so when they said “adjusted”, they meant it). Price is a little high but you are paying the premium for condition with this one:

This one is a little grimy around the outer raised track (may clean up) but not bad- fancy case (I have one like this with a different dial), USA adj movement- price is spot on
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-19...=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

Honorable mention just becuase the dial is insanely clean, GP case with fancy lugs is awesome, seller is delusional about price- but worth looking at just becuase- yum

Another golden yummy, again- double what it should be- but pretty

Last but by far not least is the Miami, I have 2 of these, I asked this seller about the spot on the dial at 8- if it’s crud or dial damage. I would happily add this as another to my collection- but do I really need a third?

This is my Miami just after cleaning it up.

After clean up

Lots of fun to be had with the Shockmasters, there was the US period and the Swiss period, the US tend to be more interesting IMO, but also tend to be a little smaller as was the sizing in the late 40’s/early 50’s.

I rarely, if ever, post quartz watches. The 80’s was a rough period for Swiss brands as we know but some stars shined brightly during that period using the new technology, and like cocaine, everyone was doing quartz in the 80’s.

One of my favorite designed from Hamilton during the dark days- their 660 Khaki diver with blasted case. If this watch came with mechanical eta, they would be worth over $1k. But the design is awesome, they were nice and slim to the wrist (a benefit of quartz), and can best even the finest Swiss watches for accuracy.
This one is in nice shape, in aftermarket strap and seller says has new crystal and runs well. Asking isn’t horrible but made me an unsolicited offer of $185 which makes it even better.
This would be a nice beater.

From 4th street goodies, an eBay seller that’s been featured here many times- I myself have purchased a few from them and have had good experices (even had a watch with an issue and they bent over backwards to make good on it).

This is a lovely 1945 Bovet chrono (bovet was a popular brand during the war years and made some excellent watches) with chrome plated case. Case isn’t bad compared to many, but the dial and hands are great on this one. 35mm so smallish compared to modern chronos but I love my small 40’s chronos, they wear like standard 3-handers with a much more interesting dial- and you got to love the rectangular pushers.
Seller says it bogs when you run the chrono and stops, then will restart after your reset, so it’s due for a service (or just wear it for time only for a while until you get it in for service).
Price is very nice for a clean 40’s chrono- has make offer and he’s reasonable but not going to entertain silly offers. I would buy this if I didn’t have 3 like it already.
A nice piece for anyone wanting to dip their toes into the really early chronos.

That watch is almost too nice for this thread, especially at that price. Definitely much better than the junk Bovet are charging $30k for in 2021

I’m sorry, aren’t you supposed to be sipping cocktails and getting mani-pedi’s over in the UG sub-forum and not hanging out with us bottom feeders?

It really is a nice watch for very little money and about as fine as any chrome plated 40’s chrono I have seen from any maker

For our UK brothers and sisters, don’t say I never think about you:

Spectacular stainless Watches of Switzerland Seafarer in EPSA compressor case. Silver sunburst dial, nice little lume pips, original cross-hatched crown, and the back engraving is razor sharp- this looks about as honest and “unpolished” as they come. Date stamp is 1962, and these compressor cases wear beautifully (I know @Bill Sohne has a thing for these). Price is spot on for a high quality Compressor in great shape.

Looking at the flaking of the leather at the lugs (brittle old leather) I wouldn’t be surprised if the strap is original to the watch. This may actually be one of the nicest early EPSA’s I have seen.

Yeah, it was dead for months- like dead, I couldn’t find anything worth sharing, I was losing hope. Then in the last few weeks it’s like the flood gates opened. I’m sure I’m missing far more than I’m finding.
Don’t be too hard on yourself!! You do a great job unearthing and sharing many great options available and many of us have bought based on your finds 😀

I’m glad that my compulsive watch shopping has yielded fruit for others. It’s what I do when I have down time. Plus, it’s fun becuase I get to research some of them and then post my findings with the listing, or share what I may know or ask others what they know. And I get to keep my money.

Ok, who bought the Bovet?

Not guilty though wishing I was.
Had my finger hovering over the BIN button for a good half an hour, but managed to convince myself it would probably stop completely in a week and cost me more to service it than the cost of the watch itself.

Back to business:

Early 60’s Stainless 33mm Elgin with Felsa movement, sunburst silver dial and applied indices. Radium lume pips look nice and lemon yellow, incudes show a hint of corrosion and dial is near flawless aside of a few tiny specs. This thing probably glimmers in the sunlight with those block indices. Seller says “runs good”, and although grammar may not be his forte, he is accepting offers so he may be better at taking your money.

We have another gold Hammy, this one not as sharp as the other, but still a nice solid gold watch in fine condition.

10k solid gold Hamilton masterpiece, attractive inscription on the back, factory crown and dial and lume are in nice shape. I hadn’t planned on posting this one as the other was better, but the seller made an unsolicited offer at $375 with a counteroffer possible, so they seem motivated to sell. Nice solid gold watch for not much money.

Up for 325 here but got an unsolicited offer of 175.

Which one was offered at $175??

And you and me both brother on the Bovet. I really debated, I had actually typed in an offer and backed out. I am a repeat customer and I mentioned that last time and he was generous with the discount based on that. If I could have gotten it under $200, I would have just done it.

Apologies, that figure was for a Cyma I was going to post here! Not sure how that half written post got appended there.
