Its a shame that this thread has dried up a little bit lately.
I used to enjoy coming in every day, to see what people where posting ?

Is it just, that there are not too many bargains available lately ?

Agreed, and a number of factors imo. One of which is that some of the regular previous contributors aren’t on the boards as often, maybe due to work or other considerations. I’ve commented to one or two before about how many posts they could put up and the general reply was the nature of their work allowed them.
But, prices of mainstream vintage watches appear to be on the rise in the western world at least.
Maybe a few of us have to step up?

Things have dried up slightly but the beginning of the pandemic really brought us all to this thread (or at least me). Plus I bought loads and have been consolidating ever since 😵‍💫

I still trawl eBay, not as much as I was since worked has picked back up a bit, but the deals do indeed seem to have become scarcer. It’s not only that there is less volume of bargain watches out there (probably due to pickers having limited opportunity due to covid), but the sellers on eBay are out of control. Every piece of shit is a rare collectible these days. Hopefully there will be a market correction, or an influx of new inventory when things really start opening up again (yard sales, flea markets- etc). But it’s kind of depressing lately

There's a number of factors:
-true bargains aren't posted here, they are bought by the spotter;
-the number of watches in an 'ok' pricerange is very, very low;
-consequently, the number of 'bargain' watches is even lower.

I agree with this except for the comment about true bargains being picked up by the spotter. Yes, if a Tudor snowflake pops up for $500 BIN, I’m not sharing it here because I’m too busy doing the eBay checkout.
But many of the watches that have been posted here by more veteran members have been great values that are either out of our collection radar, or we already have examples of.
Of course the bargain hunters always grab the best of the best deals for themselves, but I like to think that among this collective, we can share in the plunder.

I'm late to this thread compared to many, but still enjoy the updates when the regular contributors have the time to share info.

After multiple purchases this year on cool vintage pieces, all I can say is..... get off ur lazy arse and look harder!

I also want to add that one of the things I have really enjoyed about this thread is not just the opportunity to buy/share some fun watches, but the commentary and education. There have been several watches I had never heard of posted here, followed by some great insight and knowledge from the collective.
I also like to think of this as a starting point for new collectors looking to dip their toes into vintage. It can be scary to jump into vintage watches- so many land mines. So a nod from this group of a nice value piece can make it easier to learn how to spot the values.

I have posted a few here, but none lately. There are a couple reasons. Mainly I haven't seen what I consider good bargains on ebay lately. It seems like the offerings have some horrible condition issues, are greatly overpriced, or an auction that is likely to go too high.

I haven't bought anything myself for some time. I am pretty happy with my collection, and have been focusing on getting watches serviced. I still have one out that should arrive tomorrow.

I am not impressed with the asking prices of the previous two, but maybe a low-ball offer would be accepted. Maybe this is the new bargain market, thoughts?

I agree. This is where I dipped my toes in and now I'm swimming. I've learned a bunch and I am thankful. I'm also still thankful for that Zodiac Olympos you posted which I then snagged 😉

Ok, then in the spirit of thread celebration and praying to the rain gods to bestow their bounty upon us once again,
let’s share some of the watches we got from this thread!
Since I posted far more than I bought, I will share the ones I had planned to post- but then said fυck-it, and bought it myself.

Can’t forget some for the Mrs.

I guess the question is what do you think the upper limit should be for cheap / value watches as there are a lot of entry level Omegas like Geneve and Cosmics in the $250-350 range but that might be a bit much

Have to echo this sentiment. I’m a newbie by comparison to most here and the education has been enlightening. But you personally have been a rock for this thread. I’m happy work is picking up and cramping your browsing time albeit at a cost to those of us who checked in every few days to see what gems you’d uncovered.

referencing an earlier comment, the pricing on some vintage watches has exploded! I have a couple of the big Seiko chronographs (6138 and 39) and there’s no such thing as a cheap buy anymore unless it’s out of India, Pakistan or the Phillipines. Meanwhile people are asking stupid money, particularly it seems in USA and for examples that are clearly not original, don’t work or have been beaten to death after being employed as a disc brake on someone’s bicycle. On the one hand it’s great for what I own already but I feel for anyone say, who set their heart on a really nice Seiko bullhead, or worse a Kakumi
