Yes we agree. It does tell a bit of history. The US war production machine cranked out a phenomenal amount of equipment. Even as a child of the 80s, I had a ton of WWII surplus stuff. Wooden framed backpack, canteen, masonite helmet liner, canvas tents, wool shirt . . .
Yup. Surplus stores had been a part of my life until they all but disappeared about a decade ago. If only I had the foresight back in the 80’s to buy up all of those surplus Hamilton and Benrus watches they would have in the brown paper boxes sitting by the counter for $39...and Randolph & AO Aviator Sunglasses for $49.....who knew.

Sort of surprised this is still available:

Looks to be in good shape, and while $495 is a bit much one can make an offer. Regardless, that JB Champion/Wyler bracelet's hard to find and probably worth a fair amount by itself.

I was checking this one out pretty hard as you can assume- watch is a little rough. Bracelet is worth about half- but then you are stuck with the watch.

Exactly--I imagine there are quite a few of us who keep clicking back to it. I wonder what offer the seller'd accept.

I'm also a little surprised to see this still around. Granted, it's not a true Pogue or anything, and it's a later model, and it's certainly been worn, but still, given the prices of 6139-6005s of late, I'm kinda shocked.

This would be a great candidate for a dial transplant. Wyler cases were pretty standardized in this series so an HD 660 that was missing the bezel and bought for peanuts could probably be a drop-in for this.....calling @Norfolk

This one is worth looking at. Serviced ASchild movement, the JBC mesh is worth 3/4 of the asking, and fits up to 7.75” wrist. This is a slick watch for a steal

I bought it just for the bracelet mainly...

Awesome- I thought of doing the same. Not sure it if is actually 17mm as the seller claims or 17.25-17.5 which will fit most vintage US watches that did 17.5mm lugs.

Longines Admiral in 10k GF case. Dial is in the Polerouter style, crystal should clean up well. This may be a diamond in the rough.

here is a stunning LE seiko with an exceptional dial. quite the show stopper and prolly worth buying just because of it. i'm sure many will see the dial and make an immediate impulse buy. throw in nice size, LE, albeit 5000 of them and there is some drool even for toolsy collectors

pretty sure this watch will double in value before the kurono. the blue one at least

38.5mm all dial. frozen margarita or icy pink salmon..lol

not a 40/41mm wears bigger than, awkward dresser watch this time for seiko.

big time box checker for many people that has enormous unisex appeal to boot.

well done, seiko.

best price i've seen at $500.

I like the style and size, but the colors are too bright for me. Maybe if I lived somewhere tropical on the beach.

i don't think it will be as vibrant as the glam pics show. i expect a more subtle color in real life

OF bargain alert! Brought to us by our own @Annapolis - lovely 35mm Omega from 1977. This is a clean and timeless watch, and at $450, it’s priced nicely.

Edit: it was brought to my attention by another member that this watch does have moisture damage on the right side of the dial. It’s still a nice watch, but the dial is not perfect and should be weighed when considering this piece.
