You're right, the photos are poor, and a buyer would need to roll the dice a bit. But what I'm seeing can mainly be attributed to shadows and artificacts from scratches on the crystal, and like @MMMD, I would be willing to take a chance on it. Intact lume, all original, sharp case. It has the look of a watch that hasn't been tampered with, which is how I like them.

I think there will be minor spotting on the dial and some fading in the outer track, but a pristine example would be priced 50% higher. Everyone has their own place on the risk-reward spectrum and this would be an opportunity for someone who isn't too risk-averse to get a well-sized SS column wheel multiscale chronograph for a modest price.

Here is another great value and one of my personal favorites from Benrus (I have owned two of these- gave one to a close friend). Stainless case, ETA movement (yes, Benrus used ETA at this time), shallow lugs and semi-tucked crown. These are a solid 35mm and wear much larger due to the slim bezel. Look great on a variety of flat endlink bracelets and straps.

Nice tip. Great way for someone to dip their toe in vintage waters. What is not to like for the price.

I bought it, yes! I have always had a weakness for those 70's chronographs from more or less obscure swiss brands :)

I have one of these. Good deal if you get it for $1K. I paid much more.

Here's one I've been trying to convince myself not to buy. Great looking vintage chrono with a very cool case and dial and not a bad price at all. Unless I'm missing something.

Agreed- in this case the chrome is in good shape and not al pitted to hell (as most get from sweat). It’s in nice shape, has an attractive eggshell to the dial, and has a Landeron 248 which is a workhorse. I think it’s about £1-200 too much, but that all comes down to how badly do you want it and how hard is it becoming to find these in good shape.

And I think the big thing with these watches is that we are talking about 100’s not thousands. If you want to stretch another $100-200 for a better example it’s not as much of a hurt as stretching $1-2k. I have paid a couple hundred more than I should have just becuase I wanted it so badly....I can’t do that by a factor of 10

Agreed. Chronographs are expensive to service. If I get a watch, I want it to be one I am willing to service as needed. For me a no name brand stainless chrono with a nice movement would be worth it, but not the chrome.

i didn't like posting that sinn in an auction because anytime i see an auction like that i just don't think the bidders are playing on a level playing field.

how can you recently pay in upwards of 2500 for a watch and then list it to be purchased for 1000 soon thereafter.

ebay is still full of shills..you know the kinds of sellers that sell a 5-10k watch starting @ 0.99, then it realizes a pretty high price sniped, only to be listed again a day later..repeat this several times.

not saying this isn't legit, but following these possible great price auctions don't usually work out in present day ebay

    you know the red flags..

-0.99 starting bid on a very expensive watch
    -private auction
    -relisted several times after sold
    -seller end auction, retract bids
    -multiple shillers....unusually high bid count

The Carlson is really interesting. I have a gold capped Rodania with the same sharp case and caseback, big chunky crown and the same dial layout. The hands are different though.
Mine wears nicely and has a good wrist presence. The carlson Would be a nice addition to any collection. Thanks for sharing!

I wouldn’t mind one of these electronic Benrus Citations. There are a few and one is $250 obo

Lots of ‘70s goodness in a Turtle style case

that Rodania was pretty cool indeed - even though not military if you'll allow me to be pedantic @pIoNeErOfThEnILe .
I hope someone from here got it— because there are many professionals prowling these pages in search of good buying opportunities...

Except it’s not all stainless steel, the mid case is an alloy. So there you must have the explanation for the fact someone hasn’t jumped on it yet. It’s a good chronograph but many people would probably hesitate to pay 1600 dollars on a watch many people would not consider “investment grade”.

You're absolutely right, and I missed that. I'm going to retract that recommendation, since I am absolutely not a fan of plated cases.

    lorenz deep diver.

it was only a couple of years ago you could find a mintish example of this for $700's..but really without any reason the prices are all over 1-1.5K now...

you know how it goes. one high price equals more and every new found model is now that like high price....that's pretty much why many things just sit on the bay. comps based off of already high prices

seems like many companies branded this watch, silver, potens, etc, etc

the watch usually had orange accents. this one is heavily faded, but is only 530.

if interested i would shoot the seller a message and maybe he'll go lower.

Indeed. I came across him some years ago. Nice watches, but absurdly high pricing. I now exclude him from my eBay searches.
