This is absolutely outrageous. Those who’ve advised a complaint are quite right.
That said, a quick look at vintage Certina DS on eBay shows quite a few perfectly nice watches at a sensible price.

 

I know nothing of the watch brand, but it is all stainless steel in great shape only $60 from a regular seller for this thread. Perhaps a stereotype here, but it is clean and shiny so could be a good starter to get a female significant other into vintage watches.

The picture engraved on the caseback is a real trip. Looks like the watch is in a vacuum chamber with a hand pumping the air out? It is called an AIRVAC after all.

 

I've often wondered about the effect of a vacuum or nitrogen filled case on the functions of the movement and longevity of the lubricants.
Whale oil and Blackfish oils appear to withstand years of exposure to the vacuum of space in NASA applications.
