Anyone know anything about Mentor? Dial actually looks reasonable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/154204720671

Did some poking around "fonte injectee" means the case is die-cast. Also found this:

https://thewatchforum.co.uk/index.php?/topic/111816-mentor-watches-a-history-uncovered/

The gold plating is worn badly and it looks like it has a hole in the caseback. The condition is rough, but it is a Swiss Made Chronograph in "running" condition for a very low price. I wonder what the movement is . . .

Just take a yellow hi-liter to it 😉

Too bright, I think you can make a proper patina with crayons. A combo of Burnt Umber and Canary Yellow will do the trick. 😉

Found another one similar:

Pika (Swiss) Early Wrist Sports Chronograph,Timer, 39mm Rose-Gold Plate Open Face Stem Set Circa1930 to 1940s: This interesting timepiece features a pin lever movement which carries a beautiful original dial. The dial is marked with red outer 'telemeter' calibrations for measuring distance i.e. sound versus light (thunder), and blue 'tachometer' divisions at center for measuring speed. The center second hand can be controlled in a start and stop fashion from push buttons located on the side edge of the rose-gold plate case. DIAL: Off white, Arabic numerals, 1/5-sec. tracks, baton hands, center sweep seconds. MOVT: Manual, 2 button Chronograph. Recently serviced. Dimensions: Length lug-to-lug 46 width, 38 without crown. Anyone wanna take a punt? Pictures were taken from across the room seems like. Looks like the hands have been relumed.
Nice lugs, apparently a 53 model.
I was tempted, but reached my limit till first of the year, too many kids to buy gifts for.

Hi!
Just wanted to show you 2 nice scores I got with your help here! Those 2 caravelles have absolutely perfect dials (gloss, index...) and cost a ridiculous price (especially the bigger one with gold index for about 40$, it just needs a new crystal)
A big thanks!

nicely sized, larger than usually dress watch of the period... 36/37mm

hope for an honest seller and no foul play as it's a NR auction

If you love the wabi-sabi, this is the watch for you!
34mm Stainless late 60’s Elgin with what was a blue sunburst dial (most blue dials don’t survive- particularly the sunburst which is such a shame). The “patina” on this dial is actually rather cool- dinky would call it a starry night sky or tumultuous sea or some shit like that- but regardless of the poetic license, it’s interesting.

yeah, I thought the same, that dial was just too good, the lume is amazing! But it’s the other one that amazes me although it’s hard to see on pu tûtes behind the scratched crystal. Its dial is just so clean, glossy with applied indexes and dauphine hands, perfect plots...And for about a 50th of what it would cost if it said omega instead of caravelle! 😁

Stainless Elgin with a Disco Volante vibe going on
Aren't Disco Volante style cases only those with hidden and recessed lugs?

PS
Got my Croton delivered two days early. Runs perfectly so far, self winds easily and has kept time for the last three hours, I'll know more in the morning.
Only downside is the stem seems very wobbly. I suspect a waterproof seal is missing from the stem tube.
It appears the movement has been properly serviced recently.
The dial looks much nicer than the seller's image would lead you to believe, with a very neat pearly luster . The tiny speckles almost disappear in good light and aren't noticeable. The case must have been dirty when the picture was taken because it looks very nice and no noticeable blemishes, the crystal may be new, it looks very nice and clear.
When I learn more about this case I may have it properly resealed. That depends on whether the stem issue can be rectified.

PPS
After 12 hours laying dial up overnight the Croton is as near dead on to the second as my eyes can judge. If its a fraction of a second off I'll only be able to tell after several more days.

Yes, Disco Volante should be a perfect disc with recessed crown- thus why I said “vibe”- and it looks like that seller realized it was cheap and upped his BIN to $55.

And we need pics of the Croton
