Recommendations for vintage watch dealers in Rome or Florence

Hi Experts!

I'm visiting Rome & Florence (first time) at the end of April. I plan to hit up the vintage watch shops for a little shopping. I imagine the selection is going to be pretty amazing compared to what I get in the U.S.
Watches in Rome is the only dealer I'm aware of; they seem to have some pretty sweet Rolexes. What dealers do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for any guidance you may have.

Stefano Mazzariol has a shop near Florence in Prato. If you have time, I would hit up Casowatches in Napoli and Vintage Watches Milano in Milan. I know it's completely out of your way, but Fabrizio Caso has an excellent collection of watches, if somewhat over-priced, and shops in Milan are generally more suited to vintage connoisseurs than the ones in Rome from my personal experience. Italy is one giant tourist trap, so I wouldn't bet on finding a greadt deal anywhere. There are a lot of fakes and frankens abound, but lots of hidden treasures too. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm worried about fakes & frakens -- do you think these dealers would sell them too? I'm hoping not.

Stefano, you don't have to worry. Not so sure about prices or if they do VAT refund, but I doubt it and my guess is that these guys factor in currency fluctuations, so it's not likely that you are going to get some smoking deal. But let us know.

If I thought they were, I wouldn't have recommended them to you.

Edit: Let me amend my statement just a little. Even when buying from respected dealers caveat emptor still applies

Going to Rome myself at the end of October. Did you find anything interesting when you were there?

Visited Watches in Rome (http://www.watchesinrome.it/). Had to email them and schedule a visit since they are not always there. Saw some high-end Rolexes. Cool experience since I rarely see those nice pieces in person.

I found this store on my last day but it was closed (looked worth visiting) http://www.annibalieco.it/

Wish I had better info to share. I really wish I bought a vintage piece during my visit, but wasn't meant to be. Couldn't find any other watch shops, so spent most of the time enjoying the sites, culture & food 😀
