Morning all- I’m looking for a new brown leather strap for my 1969 Cosmic, which as you know is 19mm at the lug. I’ve got a genuine 18mm Omega buckle that I want to use, but I’m struggling to find a strap that starts at 19mm and only tapers 1mm. They all seem to taper to 16mm. I know they exist, as I have one on my other Cosmic! Any recommendations gratefully received. Many thanks, Mark (Stroud, UK)

This is my manual wind Cosmic on a cheapo leather strap with aftermarket buckle (16mm). My other Cosmic is on a really lovely quality black leather strap (it’s an auto date with crosshair, currently with the Watch Guy being serviced as I only bought it a couple of weeks ago). I wanted one on brown the other on black so I had the choice to match belt / shoes etc. I think about these things far too much….

This is my other one, recently purchased. Got a heck of a deal on it, and I love the strap- unsure if it’s the original, but it’s definitely very old. And- it goes from 19 to 18mm.

These are not the exact same reference like yours , but same line and around same time…from my early 70s catalogue

The straps pictured above are most likely corfam straps , they are still available from that time period but really expensive in a decent condition..but there are also dozens of similar styled straps out there (for little money)

You can usually compress a 20mm strap to fit 19mm lugs — the less padding the easier it is to do. I’ve done it many times without issue. And 20/18 straps are common, so your clasp will fit.

If you don’t want to go that option, you’ll need to go custom, where you give the dimensions you want to the maker. I (and many other members) have used Genteel handmade straps and recommend them — https://www.genteel-handmade.com/. Not your cheapest option, but you will get exactly what you want.

I just had a look at the link- they look truly terrific and, unsurprisingly, command a high price. Unsure whether I’d part with that much, even though they look A1

If you don't mind ordering from the US, Veblenist makes all their straps to order, so you can specify whatever lug width and taper you like. I've always thought that the COSMIC line looks especially good on a racing style strap.

Way easier to ditch the 18mm buckle and just get a standard strap, it wouldn't have originally come with that size buckle anyway.
