Wow...Goodfellas' Ray Liotta. Yes drummer Alan White. Depeche Mode's Andy Fletcher. May 26, 2022. RIP.

A relative unknown, Liotta was exceptional in Goodfellas. A great performance by a fine actor.

One of my bands covers Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. I was never a huge DM fan back in the day, but grew to appreciate them over the years; even more so given they are huge fans of Sparks.

And, well, Alan White. He was a fine drummer. Taking over from a master like Bill Bruford is no small feat, yet White managed to learn all of the early material in just a few days. He also played with John Lennon (Imagine), and even with the irascible bastard, Ginger Baker. White's playing helped solidify some of Yes's best material.

Godspeed, gentlemen.

Yesterday was international wine day, but I think I’ll extend that through today as well...

Omg had to work then see the dentist I was running all day heard none of this. I loved Liotta always caught his films.
White, what can you say. What a musician great video you picked a great video with Geddy Lee playing bass. Funny though that bass-line is meant for a Rickenbacker bass but when you are geddy you can do as you wish. Damn and Fletcher that’s just really sad news always sad to see people who brought cool things to the world leave us.

Indeed. Just too damn young. How great that all three performed pretty much right up to the end. Hits close to home on myriad levels for me. I’m <2.5 months from 60 and notwithstanding a few health issues rearing their pointed heads my way, I keep drumming. On a personal note, I just lost an old pal from school who passed the other day - mere weeks from his 60th. First guy I ever smoked pot with, funny enough. Unbelievable: 45 years in the blink of an eye, really.

My days begin with reading the top stories in the NYT, followed by the obituaries. Must be an age thing.

I grew up listening to my fathers cassettes and CDs of Depeche Mode, among other 80s anthology discs. I then had a chance to see them live during their 2006 Playing the Angel Tour. Being a keyboardist myself and similarly a little reserved I always sympathized with Fletcher. RIP

RIP to Ronnie Hawkins. Might not be a big name outside of Canada (even though he was from Arkansas), but his back-up band made a pretty good name for themselves once they went out on their own...they were just called The Band.

So great to see him recognized in the NYT obits. 87 years. Definitely a good run. RIP.
