This is the piece form ebay, right? The winning bid was low for a reason - the serial of the movement is very low for CB case SM300 and is very likely form another watch. It has an advantage, that you are not ruining collectors piece... would go with dial+hands relume, the aged lume bezel insert can be bought here: https://www.ebay.de/itm/133882012173

Hi, yes, it was my understanding that when Omega had a backlog to turn around they would sometimes just swap out a previously serviced movement? Thanks for the bezel recommendation I had a look previously but it's really quite different from the one that is in situ different font different triangle etc.. At 350 euros it's also surprisingly expensive for a non-OEM part, especially when compared with the original service BEZEL from Omega 082ST1660324 at £240. I'd really like to get something more congruous hopefully matching the sensitive restoration of the dial and hand lume.

IMO you should first work on the crystal - relume of dial and hands, and see the result before eventually changing the bezel : that first work alone may be enough to enjoy a "living" watch that will exhibit nicely on the bezel the scars of its past life !

I think that's really good advice, although I have a feeling that even after a lengthy period of time once the crystal and dial & handset are sensitively restored, the bezel will still catch my eye in the wrong way, a bit like eye sore 🙁 but I will definitely do things in the order you're suggesting.. Thanks you!

Don´t:
polish mechanically the case or relume the dial !,

Just wait for suitable hands (at ebay??) or make/shade the existing lume more vintage. - service the movement.
A relumed vintage dial is another destroyed dial.
My2cents

These watches are from the 60ies...what do you expect they should look like? Like show-cars at pebble-beach?

Well in many other circumstances, I would definitely agree with your statement : most of us don't want to take part to a "Pebble-Beach watch contest" !! But here, the case is IMHO quite clear : that dial is an absolute pain with this "lume" vomiting around virtually every marker... Once the crystal will have been changed, it would be even worse ! Reluming a dial doesn't necessarily mean "ruining" it ; and on that occasion, having the hands relumed by the same expert will secure a perfect colour matching !
On exceptional pieces, I can understand your point, but here ... (Sorry @SXP ... 🙁😉 ) It's just quite a nice watch that needs some helping hand to look sexy again with its nice bezel scars.
So I'm glad if @SXP follows my recommandation to take care of the crystal/hands/dial first, and then see if the bezel needs some special action; if it were me, I would then wait for a few months to see if I can get used to its new look before taking any potential further action; my late father always said : "if you wanna eat the whole sausage, then eat it slice by slice !" 😉

There is a very little chance, that sn 2030xxxx belonged to 165.024 as it is 1963 made and there is only one piece in my db with such a serial. Of course, it is a HF case/batton hands watch. You can try luck with EoA.
The bezel topic: it is a matter of personal preferences... the service bezel is new, luminova, and looks odd on the vintage watch...finding original bezel is close to impossible with a pricetag 700-1000 euro....so the 350 is for sure a lot, but it is a solution.
