Been offered a Vintage RW automatic mens square 18KGP watch by my Watch Maker in as new condition.

A: I don't have any, so a little motivated to put one in the collection
B: Actually like the look of it hence my curiosity and my wife likes the square shaped vibe and she could wear it.
C: The more I look at what RW does the less I like them.
D: Always just thought of them as just another fashion watch.
E: Spent the last 2 days researching them and searching my soul, still conflicted and in a quandary.

What is the general consensus, here is a poor picture of the watch as I was in hurry to pick up a kid from school so never checked the image when I took it.

Kind of like a poor mans Patek Ellipse. I see no redeeming features at all to that watch and would be tempted to find a new watchmaker if mine were to be offering these kind of pieces to me 😁

As I say the photo was pretty poor, will take another when I pick up some watches from him next week.

I hate day/date windows. If I don't know what day it is, I should not be part of civilized society.....

Covid has blurred that line for me. Have often found myself wondering what day it was this past year.

I have been so wrapped up with family and what with Covid havent even watched the news all year, my sister told me that a container ship had blocked the canal causing major international disruption, oh well I am living in my own little bubble lol.

What movement does it have? That's what I would care about. The rest, meh.

Rod Stewart didn’t know what day it was when she walked into the room....if he had a day/date watch we may never had had that beautiful song! (Your In My Heart)

Thinking about it as a fashion watch is probably about right. Just something to wear if you like it with no presumption of collectibility.

I know it’s gimmicky but I really like this Raymond Weil but I’m a Beatle fanatic. I would wear this in a heart beat. It’s in a similar price range as many decent vintage or other watches I like but if I ever saw one used at a decent price I’d jump on it. I think the problem is the only people who would bother buying this are Beatle nuts like myself who would never sell it

[N]ever sell it
I sell very rarely. Do you think "collector" means buying and selling because of whims? Maybe "watch collectors" do. No others.

If you like it, buy it.

Didn’t think about it too deeply I just rarely see them for sale used. Wait I bought two things off you recently, was discussing a third and you brought up a fourth. What is your definition of “I rarely sell?” I sold three things last year.

Ha ha I showed me wife this picture and told her I want this for my birthday (it’s this month) she looked for a quarter second and said “I can’t afford it” she didn’t bother asking how much it was, good way to end a conversation quickly I guess.

Terrible movement. My wife’s bvlgari has a 2004 which is pretty much the same. It is a miniaturized 2892. I have had to replace the movement completely 3 times.

Yes, it gave me pause when I worked out it was a miniaturized movement intended for women's watches.
My mind was drawing parallels with those itsy bitsy quartz movements they stuff into full size men's watches with a huge piece of plastic real-estate to fill the void of the casing.
I did find a picture of a similar RW casing and movement and there it was plastic fill.
