Rare Seamaster 176.002 ???

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for peoples thoughts on the watch.

I have recently acquired this watch and it is causing me a few issues.

The case number is 176.002 which is a speedmaster ref. The movement is a 1040. All the hands look correct, case back and pushers correct. But eagle eyed people will notice it has the word Seamaster on the dial and NOT Speedmaster.

Did omega make this watch or is it a Frankenwatch? It is listed in A Journey through time book but it’s not convincing is it’s legit.

I’m in it for the less than it costs in spares if sold for spares so before people start asking how much I paid. It wasn’t much.

Have I stumbled across a bit of a unicorn or is it not what it seems? All the wear for a watch if it’s age look ok to me. But I am not an expert.

Many thanks.

Just Googled your watch and there was one put up on Watchuseek in 2012. He was also stumped but it seems legit. Nice find and very rare. Good luck.

Can you post close-up clear photos of the dial, hopefully with no hands obscuring the Seamaster Mark III text?
